I don't have a problem in this area, but I am curious. If I was to disconnect my battery, for whatever reason. would any fault codes appear and would this mean a trip to the dealers ?

Nothing should happen by rights, but sometimes things do go wrong, more on the 203 than any other, did you want to disconnect through any reason, or could you leave a back up connected

I take batteries off 129s and 230s all day and nothing happens to me, Its a shame that no one makes a soft start for our car, nothing could go wrong using one

television, No, I am just being curious. My last car was an Omega 3.2 and when I had to replace the battery last year, I had several error codes which would not go away.

Had the expected reset the windows etc, but managed this myself, But had to get a Vauxhall tech to sort out the other fault codes for me.

(in his own time of course, I donated him a tenner or something)

Yes you have to do a roof and window re set. interesting that many MAFs go down when disconnecting the battery, there are many treads saying that I have just fitted a new battery and now the engine light is on

Doesn't this car have ESP? One would need to sync the ESP too. This is from my car manual:
"Synchronize the ESP®:
Drive a short distance with gentle turns at a
speed above 12 mph (20 km/h).
The message disappears when ESP® is again
available."

If the car has a radio with a security code, that would need to be entered too.

My advise is - On a modern MB with all it's associated Electronics, only disconnect as a last resort, too much hassle/risk.

Use a backup battery whilst removing the old one if you can.

Not always do you have to set ESP (1996 on) to set it, turn the steering 3 times from lock to lock.
Yes the radio needs coding up to around 2000-2002 then coded once from new, there is no coding for Command.
As Brian WH says use a back up if you can. The dry batteries as used in burglar alarms or UPS back ups are perfect for this, they only cost £8-10.

I have disconnected the battery on my W211 to get rid of a few electrical glitches such as 'display faulty visit workshop' and one Bi-xenon (nearside)coming on...... on it's own accord when switched off. To get rid of these I
1) leave overnight
2) take for a long (15 mile drive) and leave for a few hours
3) disconnect the battery.
I then have to re-set windows and pana-roof and electric blind and also the steering 3 turns lock to lock.
This always removes the above problems, and I have had no other problems with regard to disconnecting.

On the subject of electric blinds, rear window, are these available on the market / MB direct and are they any good ? Are they expensive ?

Electric rear window blinds are cool! Button operated from the front, they unfold from a recess in the parcel shelf and expand to cover practically all of the rear window with a mesh. Not impossible to retrofit, requires either a new parcel shelf or at least some mods to the existing one (hole to be cut), some wiring, the unit itself and a button or buttons/panel depending on vehicle. The power blind unit itself brand new is somewhere in the £350 area IIRC.
