That coupe looks a very nice car, a friend of mine had one that looked almost as good, it was recently stolen from outside his house. A real shame, the insurance co gave my less than a grand for it, it was probably stripped for parts or send abroad.

This advert is for the sale of a lovely Mercedes-Benz 230e, w123 Model. The last of the 'Real' Benz's. W123's are totally over engineered cars from a time long gone, when the designers dictated the quality, not the accountants, if there was any car that could be described as 'Carved from solid' then this is it.

I have to say that the W123 is better built however the W124 is a lot more modern... and its mpg is the right side of 20.

I like to think the W124/202/140 saloons (ie early 90s) are the last of the over-engineered cars but I always chuckle when someone states that their whichever model is "the last of the PROPER MBs" etc

The 202 cannot be seriously included in that list. Last was the R129

BE TOLD, it was the w123. Everything after that was junk.

Well, the w114 was probably the last of the "proper" MBs, and they were a bit crumbly compared to the W110, ok maybe the w120/121 were the "last of the proper MBs"!

I like the W123 and would really like to have one. This one does seem excellent but the advert puts me off, it is just too verbose and opinionated.

The w123's were built like 'tanks', all you have to do is look at the materials used for the suspension on a w123 compared even to a w124, big difference!

The unfortunate thing here is the rust, which of course is almost a non-starter in most of Southern Africa, but in Africa you will see a lot more w123's still on the road compared to w124's. With the roads as they are over there, the w124's tended to fall apart after a while, this is not the case with w123's. It was a truly 'Well-Built' vehicle, Mercedes or no.

A chap up the road from me has one of these, its a C reg though.
He has had it since I was a nipper, I guess he may have had it from new. I will speak to his dear wife and see if she will sell it me when the rotten old sod snuffs it. :bannana:

123s are just simply the best on build quality. Only matched by the 126 and Golf MK2s - the 116 comes close, but rusts like ****.

The 124 has to be the best all round motor in my experience of the 3 star - only in 6 cyl mode. 70% of the 123 build quality, but soooooooooooooooooo much better to drive.

Great ad and pics. Only let down by apostrophe over use.

£1500 max, though. I had a 230E in the same colour and in slightly worse order, 93k, with the FMSH and it could only command £1400. I only paid £300 for it and used it for 5000 miles, so all was well
