Beep beep, beep beep, beep beep!

MY W124 has a Sony CD/radio. It is a great unit, except for the stupid beep beep, beep beep, beep beep everytime you turn the ignition off (if is a reminder to remove the front face).

I hate it! It drives me nuts! When I bought my Disco two years ago, it too had a Sony, and I had to replace that unit as that drove me nuts too.

It drives other people nuts too!

Anyone got any ideas about how to stop this beeping noise? I have considered putting relays across the speaker wires which go o/c when the ignition is switched off, but I can only find relays which are very large.

Or shall I just replace the damn unit :ban:

Is this not configurable? The Pioneer unit in my SL did the same until I found out how to turn this function off (well hidden in the manual).

You need to change the position of the red and yellow wires - the downside of this is that the unit wont switch off with the key , there probably is a provision in the wiring for the red and yellow wires to be put "together" - remove the unit and see what there is. Dont force it back in when you refit - the sony loom sometimes drops into the cavities you may need to pull the wires taut from the passenger side console

Interesting. However, I do want it to switch off with the ignition.

No.

Mr Sony thinks we all live in high crime areas and so must always remove front face of unit every-damn-time we leave the car :wallbash:

I'd buy something else.

My SL lives in a locked garage and I don't think I've ever removed the face plate of the stereo.

My 8 year old Sony unit in the W202 does that as well, although i'm not to bothered by it.

Mine does that to but I'm not bothered about it.

Get out of the car quicker :).

As for the 'lights on' buzzer, I would love to change that tune.
