Belt tentioner

Hi guy i am thinking about changing the tentioner on my c240 v6 as it is getting very noisy, can anyone tell me if this is a hard job or one to be left to a mechanic?

I assume you mean BELT tentioner ? I dont know, but im guessing, that your engine has the usual viscous coupling (tween the fan & water pump), in which case the hardest part is getting the coupling off (& thats after you've found a spanner to fit it, 36 or 38 mm from memory)

Yes the belt tenSioner, sorry for the bad spelling i didn`t think it looked right!!! Maybe its a job best left to the pros. Thanks guys.

i had my ml 270 cdi belt tensioner replaced by a garage as the bearing was making a noise. did not cost much and they took responsibility for the huge belt work which i would not want to put back. dont know if your is that way ?

Yes i did have a look at the belt and it does look very complicated to put back, i think i`m going to avoid.

Simples, BEFORE you remove the belt, draw yourself a picture of it, the belt is the easy bit !
