Bernie E is that a bell I'm hearing?

He was also muttering prior to Brazil that F1 wouldn't survive without him - apparently he knows all the promoters at the circuits and many would pull out if he wasn't there...

He's done many good things for F1, but he's also responsible for a lot of what is wrong with it as well. OK, sport has become a global entertainment business nowadays but so much of what goes on is embroiled in personality cults, egos and politics.

Although not connected to Bernie, but did anyone else hear that Red Bull have been named the promoter of the WRC from 2013?

Tom Bowers book on Ernie E is required reading for anyone interested in F1. When you read how he has stitched up deals (and people) all his life it makes you wonder how he has got away with it all.

Then read on how Mosley was his right hand man and ran the FIA ! Just ghastly.Ironic really, with the way he behaved at the FIA and personally, that Mosley is now grandstanding to try to fetter free press

I agree but be careful: having read the book I no longer have any interest in F1.

At this point in time Bernie probably has more money personally than the EU.

If he doesn't like the outcome, I predict He buys Germany and installs Max Mosely as Chancellor.

I bear Mr Ecclestone no particular malice but you can't libel the dead and his advancing age suggests we could be learning a lot more within a very few years about his interesting past activities. Statutory regulation of the press permitting, of course. Re Max Mosley, I knew him in the early days of March Engineering and well recall his slavish cultivation of the press. Oops, did I just write "slavish"?

Under UK law, if it were proved Ecclestone controlled the family trust, Bambino, he could be liable to pay UK tax on its income.

I think that's the but that'll have him twitching
