I've got smeary glass, I got sonax on it, I've tried white vinegar, neat screen wash, with clean cloth, still smeary, any advice. Thanks!

Give Meguiars Glass cleaner a go. I've tried most glass cleaners on the market in my time and always find myself reaching for the Meguiars

Grade 0000 wire wool to apply your cleaner - it's good enough for waxing our solid mahogany dining table (recommended procedure by Liberon) and works really well for glass - it will not scratch, but it does remove all the crap.

Cheapest way is a used tea bag and newspaper

I've heard vinegar and newspaper but personally I'd avoid the chip shop smell and use Autoglym

This - works a treat inside and out.

I too recommend vinegar and paper. Can also be used to treat injuries if the paper is brown. :D

When my wife was a teenager she used to be a Chamber maid , she uses boiling water & wipes dry with newspaper ...gleaming mirrors etc no smear at all.

Boiling water could crack glass. Glass needs a temperature difference of seventy-something degrees C to crack.

Autoglym glass cleaner/polish (the blue one). Apply with clean paper towel, allow to dry, wipe off with another clean dry paper towel. No direct sunlight. Requires no elbow grease.

Or lemon juice / water mix at 70/30 approx if on a budget.

My tuppence worth. ...

OP said it was contaminated with sonax so it may need something a little stronger than standard glass cleaner.
If they don't work then get some silicon remover panel cleaner from a body shop supplier.
I had a similar issue and that was the only thing that finally shifted it.

My 5pence worth..... as it costs more than vinegar ;-)

In no particular order: -

0000 wire wool
Clay bar
Scrunched up old damp newspaper

I've used all over the years, and had the best results with the newspaper though it doesn't seem the same nowadays (different printing ink being used?). The clay bar is also good. Keep it well lubricated and it should lift all the contaminants off with ease.
