Bit harsh.

Are you suggesting that there needs to be at least 3 cameras?
If I'm understanding the links and quotes below, I'm not sure your comment is correct.

Average speed cameras: how do they work? | Carbuyer
Individual cameras don't have the facility to measure vehicle speed – a car must pass a second camera for its average speed to be calculated. In a sequence of multiple cameras, it is at the discretion of the local enforcement agency as to whether cameras work in pairs or in larger groups.

Average Speed Cameras Explained and How They Work
Number plates are read via ANPR as vehicles pass through the fields of view of each camera and the average speed of the vehicle is calculated between any two cameras.

Average speed cameras work by recording your speed at two different points.

The drivers you see overtaking you may be leaving the route before the second/next camera, therefore their average speed between the two cameras can't be calculated. 🤷‍♂️
That's what was explained on the course which I agree doesn't sound right personally I haven't tried it

From the article in the first link, re speeding offences:

"Individual police forces reserve the right to exercise discretion in determining whether further action is appropriate. There's no hard and fast rule, though, and there might be times when a zero-tolerance policy applies."

That sums it up well, I thought.

Great. So you can drive into the village as if it was the last stretch of the Nürburgring, then half way through the village stop at the local for a pint, then accelerate out of the village drag-racing style, and all is well........ :D
People used to do that on French Autoroutes as speeding tickets were based on time stamps at the Peage. Pass a toll gate, hammer it to the next services for a break, then pass leisurely through the next toll gate.

That has never been the case, just another urban myth.

Got an online awareness course next week 😕 46 in a 40.

cant complain, 🤷‍♂️
I had one last year. 36 in a 30.

Was dreading it but tbh the 3 hours flew by and the WPC who took the class was a star. Very entertaining and VERY funny. Was it wrong I had a sneaky mug of wine whilst sat at the computer? 😁😁😁

Correct.
The drivers stopped by the Gendarmes at the toll stations had been picked up by roadside manned radar back along the Autoroute.
Don't ask how I know.

Yes, the notorious Dave strikes again... I have to say that in spite of his many failings he's very popular, judging from the number of mates he has on this forum.

Obviously you'd sooner not be going on one, but they are actually not bad at all, and you will watch your speed, the next time you drive, after the course, but that doesn't last long. 🙂👍

Or "My mate Dave needs some advice, he is suffering from [enter embarrassing medical condition]"

Still struggling with this, and Google was not my friend this time.
It's quite simple:

Someone poses a question asking for advice for their imaginary friend, Dave, rather than admitting that the question relates to their own circumstances and the answer will be for their own benefit.

As in "My mate Dave was out dogging last night, and the police are having a crackdown, and he was arrested and charged with indecent exposure, and he wonders whether he can stop the court appearance being reported in the local paper and his mother finding out".

My mate Dave knows this....
