Bit of advice

Hello All,

As a past lurker, then poster and then defector... I was thinking of coming back to the fold...

So just wanted a bit of advice as to what to go for.. (in my head, its very clear, just a bit of reassurance needed)

I have seen a X reg 230k CLK with 65k miles on the clock for around 4.5k with mot till march 2010

The other option is a Y reg C200 Coupe, again with 62k miles on the clock and I reckon I can get the car for around 3.5k

Question is which one to go for? Heart says - CLK, head says C Class coupe.

Things that worry me about the CLK - dont know how high the service bills can be - even though Steve in Kent might be able to do them cheaper.. anything in particular that I should be looking out for?

C class coupe - I had a w203 estate before so have a feel for the car and issues it might have...

What do you guys think?

Any advice much appreciated.

Tony

Do they both have full history etc, I was told to beware of kompressors failing, imo the 320clk is a much better car, i have driven the 200, 230 and 320 and i had no doubts it had to be a 320

Not heard much about compressors failing , but the 230k engine can be too raucous for some ... it's not a very refined engine , but does the job well.

197 bhp ....

My heart would say CLK too , the C just seems a bit 'dishwatery' .... just my opinion though , i'm sure they are ok.

Service bills aren't mental , give Olly a ring at PCS , he'll talk you through it , and is worth the drive to get to. I drive to Olly in Portsmouth to get stuff done on mine , he's that good and very keenly priced too.

I'd definitely go for the CLK, as its faster and IMO better looking.

I know - I have used Olly for my c class estate before... is there anything I should be particularly looking out for on the CLK?

CLK Mate.. do it.. prices are falling and it is a better car.. and more so, the c class coupe is not a smaller version of the mis represented new e class coupe, but a hatch back.. very different types of cars.

my opinion.. clk!

I'd also go for the CLK....but check for rust first.
£4.5k is towards the top, so it would have to be a good condition and well spec example.

Definitely the CLK I have a 230k Kompressors are not a problem and very rarely fail, rust on back arches and boot can cause major issues.

I do agree with the comments on the 230 engine it is a bit Raucous and harsh but thats part of the fun definitely not as smooth as the 320. Also worthy of note in my opinion is the 230k engine and auto box are not a good combination as already pointed out 320 is better suited 230 is a bit jerky as an auto and it spoils the drive IMHO.

CLK much more of a masculine car servicing is not expensive and fuel consumption good my last tank on a run to the coast and back not hanging about 34 mpg.

So in summary CLK all the way but if it is auto make sure you are happy with the gearbox/engine combination

My head and heart says to go for the one you REALLY like.... If you settle for second best you will always say, "If only!"

Go for the one you like but make sure it is in top notch condition, do not be in any rush as there will always be that perfect car just waiting for you to come along

As said rust is a common problem, I just sohappen to have a lovely rust free, mint clk320 for sale, If you are anywhere near cambridge pop in and have a look, even if you dont want to buy it at least it will give you an idea of how much smoother and more powerful the 320 is
