I had the same problem 3 years ago .Never removed it . I worked around it then .
The tap in the engine block is stuck solid . I dont have the right tool to get in there i really have little room .
To get to it from bellow ,,i find it hard .And unable to move the car on to a ramp i dont have any ramps that fit ..
Took the car to the garage before this just to ask the chap - can you just open up the drain tap he ,said we have had these break off so just work around it . Wouild realy like to remove it to fully drain the system and cut the time down . Is the re fill and drain the only option untill clear water drains out

How did you do it Bro? Did you apply a little heat & some Plus Gas or was there another way, Did you tighten it first then gently try and unwind it?

........ That would have been my approach to it - Don't use WD40 for this - Plus gas or other serious penetrating oils are much better.
We're all waiting to hear how you did it !

Dave i did all i could with the drain tap .No way i could get in to open the drain tap up . The manifold was in the way... So i took it to my local garage and asked them to open it up,, and close it ,,so i can do it with a small ring spanner. He said we dont bother with the tap on the block ,just remove bottom hose and drain it there .We have had them snap off ,then there is no way to stop coolant leaking out . So when i got home i removed the top and bottom hoses along with the thermostat and radiator hose from the pump and let it drain .And then i used a 12 volt extractor pump tp suck all the old coolant out of bottom hole in the water pump , and each hole in turn ..I then filled the pump again from the same place .After this it was suck it out, and fill it up till it ran clear. After 6 times i had to leave the clean water in [read on ] changed the old thermostat for a new Gates , and then put 4.5 litres of G48 in the expansion tank. Run engine up to temp . Open the brass bleed screw on the head to let air escape .. Looks ok yesterday after i had it up to temp Only thing is my 12 volt extractor pump packed up That is the reason i had to leave the tap water in because the pump packed up . As it was not ment to be used with water .Thats why i had to use tap water instead of distilled water .
