Hello all,

Today I decided to check the rear ABS sensor on my W124 Brabus. Low and behold when I removed the sensor differential oil started flooding out of it. My gut feeling is that an internal diff seal has blown :(. If this is the case what is the strongest diff I can fit onto the car, i.e. perhaps one from an S-Class? Or should I rebuild mine? Thank you.

Still no ABS

Thanks for the offer Ian but I've had a chat with Merc and there is nothing wrong with my diff. There should be oil surrounding the ABS sensor. So I changed the rear ABS sensor to no avail. I have no tried new sensors in all 3 locations, the ABS light still remains on once I pass ~10mph. I guess it's stealers or bust for this then!

Check relay and fuses under back seat.

jgevers, I replaced the OVP a few months back to try to sort out an idling issue. I'm not aware of any other ABS relays or any fuses under the back seat?! Only the connection to the rear connector.

Sorry,

I am thinking of another car (Audi of the same vintage). Which make of ABS ECU have you got? I can supply you with pin data which will allow you to check the whole system with a multimeter except for speed sensors.

regards,

Job

Hi Job,

I'm pretty sure that it's a Bosch ABS ECU. I pray there's nothing wrong with it as the ABS ECU is also the engine ECU and has been tweaked by Brabus. Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Mehmet

Hi Mehmet,

The ABS ECU is seperate from the engine ecu. Can you PM me your fax number so that I can fax you the ABS ECU pin out on Monday when I return to my garage.

regards,

Job

Hi Job,

I've included a pic of the ABS ECU from my car. Indeed you are correct, thankfully it's seperate from the Brabus tweaked Jetronic unit. It is Bosch part no. 0 265 101 018 and Mercedes part no. 005 545 21 32.

Regards,

Mehmet

ABS probably fixed now

Job, thank you very much for sending me the ABS pin out. After some multimeter testing today I have discovered that the wires to the rear sensor have a break somewhere. Quick phone call to main dealer for ABS wiring loom, £411!!! That's twice as much as the engine wiring harness on my uncle's S500. So I found the culprit stretch of wires to within 1.5m and will replace with a new section tomorrow which should see my ABS back again :bannana:. Too bad I already replaced 2 sensors after duff advice from a garage I won't name .

UPDATE: ABS is indeed working once again. I couldn't believe it but the wires spliced have done the trick saving £411 plus what I'm sure would've been enormous labour charges too :bannana:
