Car
Various.
I bought this 2.6 automatic http://tinyurl.com/yeeehs from Eddie (madman190) over on www.mercedes190.co.uk to use as my everday car to replace the loathsome manual diesel 2.5 I couldn't get on with.

It used to look like this and I hope to make it look that good again. http://tinyurl.com/ycx6kh

It runs well and has some nice options - leather, 4 headrests, 2 armrests, OTG, illuminated vanity mirrors, ss exhaust, new 255 14 17 tyres on new rims - and has a proper service history. It's been looked after by the people who had it from '92 until '06 when Eddie bought it & continued to care for it. Eddie looked for a really good black / black leather car for 9 months & spent about £1,800 AFTER the initial purchase on wheels, tyres, lowering springs, ss exhaust, Cosworth bodykit, brakes, servicing etc. It has 11 months MOT & 6 mths. tax.

I bought this to use as a donor car because it has a perfect OS with Cosworth kit in the correct colour. http://tinyurl.com/y5jx7o

Now, the plan is to remove the wings, doors, rear bumper and Cossie rear skirt from the donor car & put it all on Eddie's car, thus, in a day bringing it back to it's former glory.

Bearing in mind that I've never attempted anything like this before and am a very average mechanic can anyone give me any tips, advice, clues, guidelines, things to do OR NOT TO DO to make this project go as smootly as possible?

Many thanks.

P.S. The donor car will be redundant after this job is complete so if anyone needs bits speak up. It had a £1,300 auto transmission rebuild about 5K ago.

Graeme,

Thanks. Don't know what happened as they worked when I previewed it.

I've removed the front wing from the donor car which was a doddle & am hopeful the rest will be as straightforward. A mate is coming to help on Monday & a local body shop has quoted £100 to align the B pillar door hinge & fit the doors properly.

I think it looks a lot worse than it actually is as each door is only 4 bolts, a checkstrap & the wiring & the wing is about ten bolts & the bumper is bolt on too.

Ever the optimist!

nice wheels

Thats a really nice 190 --tasteful mods but not too over the top. well worth the effort of restoring it. Bet the former owner was totally gutted when it happened. I would go for the clear/smoked indicators look myself (but appreciate its a matter of taste?) ---- needs nothing else.

I actually really like the kit in matt  , looks unusual and really nice ...

Will you be painting the kit or keeping it matt ?

Actually, it's not matt. It's a bodykit from a real Cosworth in blue black. It looks rather good I think. I have a full Cosworth kit in 040 Black (same as the car) but am undecided yet as to what to do. It's going to be my everyday driver so I don't want to get too precious about it or go to the expense of painting.

I think the PO did a v. nice job on transforming the appearance of the car. It looks great (from the NS!) and actually handles really well while still having a more comfortable ride than my Cosworth. And yes he was gutted, with a tear in his eye as we completed the deal.
