Boot won't close manually

Hi all,

Yesterday, I attempted to close my boot manually and for some reason, it just won't close (won't catch the lock at the bottom). I can see some wear and tear on some rubber on the upper latch so I'm thinking it's best to replace the upper latch itself. It also doesn't close when I push the button on the boot (this has always been a hit or miss tbh - I wasn't bothered by it because I was fine with manually closing it).

My VIN is WDD2050042R015274 (2014 C220). Can anyone help me source the correct part? I'll then take it to be fitted (don't think I'm competent enough to do it myself).

Thanks in advance.

To confirm, does the boot close itself using motors when you bush the button?

If so, then you really shouldn’t close the boot by hand, as it will damage the motors. A colleague did that on my car (just once) and it needed a new motor as a result.

It sounds like latch has failed. I’ve not heard it happen on the W205 C-Class but it’s common on other models. A replacement latch is the usual fix when it fails.

It does close by itself using the button but it doesnt actually go into the full locked position (always had issues with this, perhaps the former owner closed it manually and damaged the motors, like you said).

Any website where I can source the latch? and the right part that I need?

All good now - I managed to get the latch to the closed position manually and then to it's open position using the boot button, now it closes normally using the button🙂

Good to hear that it’s sorted 👍🏻
