Bottom spec W204 to high spec W205 C - worth it or save for an E-Class?

Hello all! I currently drive an, honestly, fairly crap spec (for a Merc! ;)) C-Class and thinking of putting some savings towards a newer E-Class. I was wondering if there are any taxes to pay on selling a car privately? It was given to me by my parents who stopped driving last year as an upgrade from my Vectra, so selling the car will be entirely income for me, which is the reason for my tax concerns. I've looked at this tax calculator but can't figure it out. Anyone here know more about selling cars and can help me out a bit?

Onto more important things... Early low spec W204 vs decent W205! Has anyone else done this, and what are your experiences? Is it worth it, or should I go straight for an E-Class?

Can't remember the exact rule, but back in the day you had to sell 3 cars in 6 months or something before HMRC would come sniffing, suspecting a trader at work. With a single car you'll be fine, nothing to declare.

Cheers,

Gaz

E-class all the way!

Regarding tax, it's not so much about your sale of the car, more about the gifting of it from your parents. In practice, the HMRC won't give a monkey's, but if you want to read up about it then fill yer boots here.

As for the E-Class or W205, you pays your money and you takes your choice. The E-Class is much larger than the C-Class so decide if you want or need the extra room. Or if you just fancy an E-Class ;)

The taxman won't care.

E-Class is a big car. Do you need it? Unless you are buying the new E-Class, I thought the previous E-Class (W212) felt very old fashioned next to a W205. Probably better built, but it felt a generation older. In fact, it will probably feel like a big version of what you have now! Only you will know, so see if you can have a good poke around both cars if you can.

FWIW, I prefer our S205 to the previous generation E-Class and as already mentioned, the E-Class is a significantly bigger car, which is an important consideration.

My 2015 E class has been in for a service today and they loaned me a one month old C class for the day. Mine feels much nicer to drive, smoother and a better ride, I couldn't wait to get it back. Obviously, these things are all very subjective!
