- 2011 S212 350 Sport with Brabus D6S, 2020 SLC43, 2000 SLK320
After fitting a D6S to my E350 last March I have been somewhat underwhelmed by the performance of the car. It never seemed to have made that much difference, and it had this awful flat spot for about 500 revs between 3500 and 4000 rpm. About 3 weeks ago I sent a mail to Brabus asking if they had any ideas (thanks Developer215 for the email id).
Great service from Brabus - they asked for a photo of the label under the box and duly declared that although the box was fitted in March '12, the software was of June'11 vintage. They asked to replace it. Thanks to Matt at Purslow for sorting the swap.
Wow! A different car. No flat spots, it pulls like a train up to 90 (which is when I eased off) and is far more repsonsive. I also noted that the reported economy is somewhat improved. I am under no illusion - it will not have improved, but previously it was surprising that the brim-to-brim MPG was close to the OBC reported mpg - an indicator (according to DM) that the box was not doing much.
I've noticed occasional wheelspin and the rear end getting out of shape if I floor it - the car now feels like I first expected after the upgrade in March.
So.. the D6S is expensive, but when it's got the right firmware in it, the difference is noticeable. In a C350 it must be awesome.
If anyone out there has one that may have old firmware, suggest to ask Brabus if it should be updated.
