Mercedes W204 C180 Coupe Amg Sport Plus
Hi all, i have recently decided to start modifying my w204 c180 coupe amg sport plus, i have done a quad tip c63 style cat back exhaust and im planning on getting the car remapped to stage 1 or 2 depending on what upgrades will be needed. Im looking to upgrade my breaks no only for function but looks, does anyone have suggestions on break kits as i cant seem to find any online.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Brake...

322mm from the 350 CDI or

344mm from the SLK .

I am pretty sure that your car has the m271 engine. Are you aware that there are problems with the camshaft sprockets on this engine? If not then google it. If I had one of these the last thing I would be doing is remapping it - and if it is not going any faster you don't need to waste your money on upgrading the brakes. The C class diesel engines are better than the m271 petrol.

Welcome, pics of your motor, as you mod it, please. :) 👍

As above, though the camshaft sprocket wheels can be replaced with modified parts. And the chain, tensioner, and guides should also be replaced at the same time.

The M271 isn't a bad engine, DOHC 16v (Supercharged or Turbocharged, depending on the year) and available from the factory in three tune levels 143/156 bhp, 165 bhp, and 201 bhp. It's just the weak sprockets that let it down, replace them and It's good to go.

That said, simply remapping the M271 won't yield a signifiant improvement in peak power or torque (in spite of the remappers' claims), the highest tune level is achieved by reducing the compression ratio to accommodate an increase in boost (larger supercharger / higher-boost turbocharger).

The M271 was replaced by the M274 from mid-2012, BTW, what year is the OP's car?

My car is a 2013 model

Just make sure your insurers are ok with modifications, especially to the brakes..

Then ignore my post :)

It will have the M274 1.6L Turbocharged engine. Not affected by the sprockets issue.

The main problem with these engines is failed thermostat, surprisingly it's a big-eesh job that will set you back £700-£800 at the dealer or half that at good specialist.

But the same applies re remapping, these are highly-stressed petrol engines and significant performance increase via a simple remap is unlikely.

Thanks for the help mate, appreciate it. So glad iv found this forum good to get input from guys with more knowledge than myself.

I think the key issue isn't if a remap is safe (it is, when done by a competent remapper), instead it's the fact that even the most mild remap is a get-out-of-jail card for the car manufacturer.
Gave that a read mate, I understand there is risks involved with remapping, on the other hand iv had other say remapping is great for fuel efficiency and also the added power is nice.

I deliberately didn't offer any opinion, as it's similar to asking about tyres, supermarket fuel (assuming you can get it) etc., it's like opening a can of worms;), and likewise I hadn't commented on the original thread. However, as I'd seen it only a few minutes previously, I simply flagged it up as it was still fresh in my mind.

Your point is a good one. The 1.6 CGI turns out just under 100 BHP/litre. That's almost 30 BHP/litre more than a W204 C63 😲
