Brembo vs OEM

How long have you got ?

Thanks for asking BTW ;)
Lol I have all day matey ;) hope it’s all sorted now

Reason I ask is I think I am having similar issue on mine!

Having the waterpump changed along with rocker cover gasket and injector leak off pipe! What was leaking on yours?

Be prepared to file some of the paint off the sides of the brake pads Abs.
It had to be done on mine to ensure a loose fit inside the caliper.

That’ll be because of your calipers Roger, not because of the pads. All the 8-pot alloy Brembo calipers as used on your ‘55 corrode behind the stainless steel guide plates, the corrosion pushes the guide plate out which makes the pads a tight fit. If the calipers were new (or the corrosion removed) they’d fit okay without filing anything off the pads.

Common issue and not a specific Brembo pad issue - have seen this with many types of pads on those calipers (Alps on the forum had this with EBC ones on his old ‘55) plus your own pads, and even genuine OE pads (look how many ‘55s have corroded discs on the inner face - the pads get squashed and don’t move freely :)

I’m sure Abs’ Brembo pads will be a good fit and hopefully not require filing down :thumb:

You are quite correct Will. It was corrosion behind the steel guide plates that had to be removed as well as some paint.
As you allude to, Abs car being a lot newer his pads should fit fine.

Add in the fuel filter coolant inlet outlet housing it's a given along with the plastic water pump as the replacement new are redesigned parts.

Brembo are standard from MB on my C55. I replaced mine with Brembo from EuroParts £54.96 each ! and that was for front discs 345mm vented and cross drilled. Basically genuine 'Mercedes Benz' parts.
Rears were £39.33 they are vented but not drilled on a C55 (also Brembo) , and as mentioned on here the coating on the hub and outer rim of the discs looks very durable and is holding up well on my car. It's my only car and it gets driven in all weathers and lives outside.
I am using Akebono carbon ceramic pads and am very happy with them almost zero dust and the tiny bit of dust is light grey same as the wheels :) and they are very quiet and have a progressive feel at the pedal. You might struggle to source Akebono , I bought these back from the USA with me.

Go for Brembo.

The brand used by MB will vary by model and variant. I opted in for brembo discs and pads and the car stop distance decreased massively. I suspect pagid is used for some models by MB but they felt squishy.

Oh, and Brembo pads are just as dusty as OE:(
You need ceramic pads like Redstuff or Akebono for reduced dust braking.

What paint did you file off?

The paint (and no doubt a mm of metal too!) on the sides of the steel backing plate, for the edges/sides of the pads where they sit in the calipers - so they move freely and don’t jam/get stuck.

Yep, as Will says, some paint from the side edges of the steel backing plates.

Update!

Brembo discs and pads fitted all round today by my indie.

No paint needed filing down on mine and both the discs and pads fitted perfectly.

Also, they have a nice UV paint coating on the hub so that should prevent any corrosion.

All in, very happy!

Thanks all
