I have booked my car in for a service A, with MB Chesterfield.

My car is 4 years old (08) 30,000 on the clock. and they have gave me a price of £406.

£199 for the service
£35 for the MOT
£50 (can't remember exact fiqure) Brake Fluid Change
£50 (can't remember exact fiqure) air filter
£50 (can't remember exact fiqure) fuel filter

Is this reasonable?

It may not be reasonable but its what a MB dealer charges.

I thought JCT 600 ( Chest, Sheff and Donny) were doing MOT for 30 quid?

Just had a service and i am puzzled how they say it is x pounds and then add on for other items and labour which they know are to be part of the service!

I think (may be wrong) but an A service is basically an oil and filter change. Depending on time and/or distance there are other items that require attention, ie after four years change plugs, air filter, fuel filter etc.

The MB ESS site tells you what the basic service includes and what "extras" are lurking based on mileage and time. As Woody says, there are 2 yearly items (eg brake fluid), 4 yearly items (eg air filter), all have time/mileage limits. MB are also known for refusing to stamp the service book if you have just the basic service but not the extras! With a 4 year old car, unless there are warranty implications, my suggestion would be find a good local independant MB specialist, even if you have to drive some miles to get to him you'll still save money!

My wifes B class in into our local Indy on Monday and I have been quoted.

£150 for the service (C service?) oil change
£90 for the ATF change
£28 to fit 2 new tyres I am supplying.

I said how about £250 all in inc vat...

they said yes :)

That on a 2.0cdi with CVT auto on a B class.

OK so it will not be FMBSH but still FSH and I'm pretty certain they actual care more than the main dealer. The main dealer is also only 2 minuites away from me, whereas the Indy is 45 mins away but I get a car so all good :)

At 4 years, wouldn't the OP's car require a B service?

I paid £380 for a B service (inc MOT fee- £30) at a MB dealer back in November. This included new: oil, oil filter, pollen filter, fuel filter, air filter and new batteries in the key fob. My car had a brake fluid change on its last service, so this was left out this time around.

As mentioned shop around and get quotes from other MB dealers.

Yes, it should. Having said that, there's not a lot of difference - the only parts difference is the pollen filter and key battery change.

If the prices the OP has given where the ones he got straight off, then they're not bad - the standard price for an A service is more like £250, for example. However if you package a few items together then they'll usually discount the total. Asking them to "pricematch" an indie is a phrase I've heard a bit lately, and is a bit less aggresive than asking for a discount.

I always say this, but bear in mind that someone has to pay for those glass palaces with TV, wifi and coffee, that manufacturer surveys say we all want.

My 2008 C200cdi B service cost me £290 at an Indie last May.
