E63 amg
What happens when you badge up your C Coupe (with single exhaust) as an AMG Black series and encounter a genuine W212 E63 AMG next you :dk: ...you get shown up badly!

Why do people insist on badging the lowest model derivative C coupe as an AMG model...and not even a normal AMG but a black series!

Madness...

I'm afraid it's not just the entry-level models, all are subject to up-badging. Black-series badging is a bit much though!

Mine's debadged for the opposite effect - everyone assumes it's a 230k or a 320 and 99% of the time I let them carry on believing that.

It's down to personal preference really some people like to put badges and stickers all over their cars leave them with it. I saw a 163 ML a few days ago that had a "full time 4wd" badge slapped on the back of it... why I have no idea but each to their own!

I wouldn't debadge my cars but understand why some people do.

They like people to think they can afford the £1000 a month PCP payments I guess.

Same reason people want to buy Louis Vuitton/Hermes Bags.

Each to his or her own. Maybe it's the best they can afford and to them they love it. Let's face it we are probably all pretty sad and know even without badges what model it is...

Single. Double, quad. Oval. Down turned exhaust etc...

No harm in it. If you have the real deal nothing to worry about

I understand de-badging a more powerful car to have a more discreet look, but not the other way round especially when you encounter the genuine article and try and put on a display of performance

I know you can get fake AMG badges off ebay, however with the black series being relatively new surely this a dealer purchased badge..perhaps even a special order?

eBay is loaded with Black Series badges

I have a c230 coupe with factory AMG spec, so that is i think...body kit, bumpers and skirts, boot lip spoiler, amg alloys as far as i know.
So out of interest...
Would AMG badge be out of place?
what would be considered ok?

I have left its original badges alone so its badged 230 kompressor and has AMG stamped wheels!!!(comes like this from factory!)

Always wondered what is cosidered ok in a case like this???

Feel free to do what you want, there are several very-long threads about this subject! I think you answered your own question in the sentence above it.

Because Mercedes are at it.

Once upon a time an AMG kit and wheels were expensive and thus rarely seen, now it seems almost every W204/W207/W212 is a "Sport" model and has the AMG kit and wheels.

Devalues AMG if you ask me (not that you would).

It's something that MB had to do though to keep up with the M-Sport and S-line competition - Lexus now offer F-Sport? as a model line up. To those that know, the proper AMG models have slightly different styling to their standard-model counterparts.

As said above because it's probably all he can afford and may never be in a special privileged position to be able to own and afford to run a real AMG in his life.

So to him he's probably living the AMG dream!

Live and let live, each to their own :)

Of course adding an AMG badge to a car that didn't have one when it left the factory is a notifiable modification, for insurance purposes ...

Muddies the water though, it's got to the stage where AMG is to Mercedes as Ghia was to Ford...

Nicely highlighted by this post:

No part of that c230 coupe is "AMG spec" nor has seen any AMG attention. It basically has some decorative and shiny bits that ape the look of the AMG models.

It's hard work keeping up with the neighbours though; I park next to a 204 C180 at work and the chin spoiler, side skirts, diffuser, 18" rims etc make it look much more aggressive than my 10-year-old AMG.

Couldn't agree more, that said if my E-cab didn't have AMG bodywork on it as part of the sport pack/if the sport pack didn't exist I would have ticked the boxes to get them factory fitted, I'm not under the illusion that my car is in any way, shape or form an AMG car though!

Do Ford still do Ghia models??

People just see mine as an E320 or an old diesel model, no flashy spoilers or quad pipes - Badging up is one thing, ok to a degree making a car 'look' nicer but trying to fool people it's the real thing in terms of traffic light grand prix.. That's a bit sad to be honest.

That's why you see these threads on small modified hatch forums that their 1.6 etc have just beat a 'AMG' in blah blah scenario.
