So question is: how moronic of an idea is it to retrofit a mercedes sunroof to a non sunroof car? I am looking at a super low mile 300ce 24 and i would really like the roof for spring and autumn driving ( i am in spain). Have found a complete used sunroof. Is this a whole world of pain?

That would be an immense amount of work to get working correctly, that is after the huge expense of grafting it into the car with the related bodywork and paint.

I am a little jealous though, as a non sunroof shell in the UK is quite rare.

Thanks, that was my thought. Pity. I guess at least a non sunroof won't leak! Its just on these cars it is so far forward and large you really get the benefit of it ( well it was on my old saloon). Silly to miss an otherwise great car for the sunroof i guess. It is manual dogleg with clooth that i prefer to leather.

Many car mods fitted skyports on 70's cars back in the day.
Doubt it would look cool on a Mercedes?

I would respectfully suggest that , while not impossible , short of replacing the complete roof with the sunroof in it , to get the alignment completely right , which is absolutly critical ( even replacing the moving parts in an existing roof with alignment jigs is far from easy ) , it is a very difficult task .

What would be much easier , would be to find a specialist installer of Webasto aftermarket sunroofs ( the type with either fabric , or sliding louvres , and some of these can be electric operation ) . I know there is an agent near me in East Kilbride , Scotland , but there should be a network of agents all over Europe .

Here is some info ; I would strongly suggest this , at least if they bu66er up your car , they will have insurance to cover it !

Getting something like this professionally installed would not be cheap , but surely preferable to the risk of a DIY venture where you have no one to go to for help ? My sister had a panoramic roof like the bottom load one shown , in her Golf Estate as a factory option , and it was superb .

I should add that the original , factory fitted , full length sunroof in my Ponton , was Webasto , with the branding etched into the rails , which at that time was the fitment of choice .
