1995 E320 Coupe
Does anyone remember a E320 Coupe discussed a couple of months ago?

It was a London-based 14,000 mile example, generously specc'ed in Rosewood Metallic with a cream leather interior.
The advert was on ebay and the car was around £8,000.

Well it appears that Merc Specialists Chesire Classic Benz purchased it, and they have now put it up for sale for.....£16,950!
On top of that, it's gone up to 15,000 miles.

That's a nice little profit for what might have been a few hours fettling about to tidy her up. Nice looking car but wish I had seen it at £8000

Outrageous, but the guy is running a business so its worth a try i guess. The SL320 at Martin James has been marked up from less than £10k to £16995

i bet the potential new owner of the 124 wouldn't be happy if he ever finds this thread.

Nice delaminating rear screen. No heated seats, and £16950. Do you think it is time to put mine up for sale?

100% markup on the CL420 that they have there too

It is a nice example (I had spoken with the previous owner) but the price is in cuckoo-land.

its weird, they must work on a very low turn-over, as most of us know our onions when it comes to value.

I also like this, but again big bucks (don't mean to hijack thread)

Are the Ironside et al cars really worth the premium?

As i mentioned in another thread my neighbour bought his 500E through ironside and is now trying to sell. Going to be painful.

They must have a terrific cash reserve to be able to sit on cars for that long.

Made an inquiry on a CL500 from a trader.

Has been in stock for.......

2 years!!!

That has got to hurt

surprised he told you, i'd have expected "just arrived last week sir"

I was surprised too - I knew that they had had it for over a year but not that long!

I have looked at a couple of cars for sale over the years that had been previously purchased from Charles ironside - I had very high expectations but neither of them were outstanding examples - sure they had been used for 1 or 2 years since purchase but they had faults that would have been there at the time - maybe some good prepping had masked them a bit (all bodywork problems). So I would never pay these premiums - they are only buying the cars that we think look about right at price x and then marking them up to 2x.

The joys and benefits of forums like this - helping ensure that we pay a fair price.

there is always someone out there crazy enough to pay these prices.
lets face it, he must sell the cars eventually.

At the end of the day, its no use him selling these cars cheap.. extremely low mileage cars are hard to find so he wouldnt be able to replenish his stock.. so why not.. he cant have more than 40-50K worth of stock.. most of these cars are never going to be worth less than what he paid.. so why not.

It only takes one buyer.

Charles Ironside was a very loyal customer of mine when i was in the trade and i must say that although not all of the cars were aesthetically 100%, mechanically they were all "as new". He would very regularly pick up many second hand trim parts from us to finish the cars off.

Amen...someone is always crazy enough...
