Please can somebody help me out???? i have a 94 c180 with an autobox that behaves erratic i.e. revs going up as high as 5500rpm and lowest at 3500rpm to change up gears, all gears seam to be working properly when changing and it changes down perfect. this is an early model with no MAF sensor. Please can somebody point me in the right direction of any possible causes for this problem? Also i better mention that when i pull away gently and slowly the gears change at 3500 and if i pull away fast they change at 5500. please help as im about to lose the plot!!!!!!!!!

not sure when it was changed if at all, its now done 105000 miles

MB do say they the gearbox fluid usually lasts a lifetime. However what oil lasts that long? It might be worth taking your car in for its gearbox oil changed

ATF in this car can never last a lifetime. His is 1994

What ATF should i use as MB recommended one is very expensive, are there others i could use of same quality? Does anyone think this is the problem or should i be looking at other things too?

Just has the ATF changed and the improvement in the smoothness of shifts is remarkable.. The car has "only" done 48K...

will try to change fluid and see if that makes a difference. If anybody has any other ideas for the problem im having id be greatful.

ATF change is relatively cheap...

If you want to spend more, go ahead.

Oil change makes a BIG difference

Going to change it myself this week if the weather picks up a bit, dont fancy lying in the snow. Will let you know how i get on.

Booked it in today to get checked at gearbox specalist but he doesnt think that fluid change will make much difference to the problem, anybody any ideas? BTW its the 4 speed non automatic box fitted to this car.

Sorry i mean 4 speed non electronic box. Doh!!!!

One fault listed is hard to shift out of 1st that is a broken drive wheel on the cetrifugal clutch.

The most common and fits yours is "Long or soft upshifts"

and that is an easy one to fix "replace the K1 spring ass;"

That is all that is listed

Had the valvebody replaced and its back to perfect again !!!!
