Could someone please help me with an advice to get rid of a tricky situation?
After the cold spell I used my electronic key to open the car. As there were no response, I had to use the metallic part of the key and opened the door manually. I pulled the release lever near the driver's seat. Then I pulled the bonnet release handle ( plastic black strip ) near the radiator grill. But the bonnet would not disengage and I could not lift the bonnet to see what is wrong. Am I missing something? Thank you.

Thanks for your response.
I must add a note to make my situation a little clearer. On pulling the bonnet release handle, there was slight movement and a gap appeared.Running my fingers along the gap I could feel two plastic bits. Nothing was mentioned on the driving manual about these. I tried to move these slightly to see if the bonnet would disengage, with no result.

Made me smile this one, if you can't open a bonnet I doubt looking at it's contents will help you to diagnose the problem with your non functioning key!

Absolutely no offence intended, just made me smile

It could still be frozen. Have tried a kettle of hot water over the front of the bonnet?

On my W203 the cable sometimes sticks at the latches (one either side of the car). Try pulling the lever while somebody attempts to lift the bonnet. It may want pushing down first to ensure that the pins are not fouling on the latches.

Don't force the lever. It will snap off.

Sorry to bother you. The sequence of events need a footnote. The problem for investigation I believe is not the key. Assuming such is the case have you any suggestion as how to circumvent the problem of the bonnet .

So you have pulled the bonnet catch inside the car - Yes?

Did the bonnet release when you pulled this lever. As in, did it pop open an inch or so?

If it did then that should release the bonnet onto it's safety catches and allow you to pull the bonnet release on the front of the car. - Yes?

I think what you are saying is that when you pull the actual release at the front of the car noting happens?

That being the case then you have two possibilities:

1) The catch is busted and you need to get to a garage.

2) As I described in previous post. One of the release catches is stuck. That can sometimes be freed up by getting somebody to sit in the car and pull the release. While you push and pull the bonnet from the outside of the car.

If that fails then you need a garage.

Is this for real?

If you can't open a bonnet, what are you hoping to achieve by poking around inside.
