c220 auto change speeds

just another quick question on the c220 diesel auto( mine is not a turbo model ) are the gear changes set a pre selected speeds within the box ( mine is a 5 speed auto box ) i think mie is a 70 bhp if thats the right thing and sometimes seems a little slow.
dont get me wrong im not a fast driver.
also when i press the accelerator is there a point before the revs start as i seem to press for about quarter inch before revs kick in this may be normal but i dont know

The C220D is not exactly a speed machine so dont expect much in terms of performance because they don't really have any.

The behaviour you are describing seems normal.

And yet if it is a 5 speed box then surely it should change gear according to throttle opening? (5 speed is electrically controlled box)
Also, the C220 should have 94BHP (or there abouts) but it's all relative and depends what you're used to as to how fast it feels.
