Hi all, looking to squeeze some more ponies out of my w203 c220 CDI, I remember getting an egr blanking plate for my e46 320d and it was really straightforward to get the part and fit and was a decent little upgrade, just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction for an egr delete / blanking plate for the OM646 engine - I’ve struggled to find any.

Thanks!

Or the guy crying on the street corner because his car has failed its MoT and has been crushed for failing to meet regs...

I would think 150 BHP from an 646 engine would be enough. My CLK is quick enough for me , more ponies come at a cost in that whatever you do to increase the performance of an engine there has to be a trade off in other aspect's, for me a 646 is best left alone. I can get 50+ MPG on a motorway run and 30 ish locally, I have on occasion seen 125 MPH on the Navi. Off the line can see a bit of wheel spin in the damp if pushing on a bit. I did consider a remap, but think I have enough ponies for now.

Thanks to the OEM plus defence squad for stepping in gallantly [emoji42]

I have got 50+mpg out of it once on a motorway run, leaning towards a remap too to be fair to crank that up

Egrs are a good idea out the box but after 50k of driving, the gooey muck in the engine makes the emmisions and smoke actually worse.

A blanked (or mapped out) egr combined with a proper inlet manifold clean will produce less smoke.

In answer to the original question a blanking plate will not work, needs to be mapped out on the 220

Egr makes combustion less oxygenated so more unburnt fuel molecules - soot to start with .

Ends up in the oil and turns it black .

Also the egr exhaust gasses aren't spooling the turbo .
