Hi Guy's,

Just joined your forum. Loads of information there. I do have a question, probaly been answered before, but i have not found it yet.

I recently bought a C220 CDi. On getting it serviced (169k) i was told that the head gasket may have gone as there is oil in the water. :( If this is indeed the case, how can i make sure that it is indeed the HG and if so where can i get a manual so that i can change this myself?

Appreciate any help.

Maybe just rubber between? (can't remember now what's the correct name for it). My friend had same problem few weeks ago- different car, same problem.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris,
thanks for the quick reply, however, i'm a bit confused  with your reply "rubber between" what rubber, between what?

Thanks
eddie

Hi Eddie, the big question is how much oil is getting into the water, if it is a minute amount does it matter, why not flush out the cooling and refill and see if more gets in

Hi Malcolm,
I've done that, or at least the garage did that yesterday. I'll give it a week and see how much, if any, more gets in.
Do you know if a manual is available for this car?
Thanks
eddie

I'm talking about a seal. English is not my native tongue and can't really tell now what is the word for that seal :(

.

Automatic, or manual gearbox ?

If A.
Radiator could mix gearbox oil, and coolant.

Hi tuikku,

it's an auto box.
I've cleaned out the expansion bottle as there was quite a bit of oil stuck to the sides. Since then it's stayed quite clean, but still monitoring it.

Interesting you say about rad, as this has been changed by the previous owner!

Cheers
Eddie

.
Check and change gearbox oil soon.
Coolant breaks it.
