Are there any common issues to look out for on a W204 2012 C250CDi?

On the way to view one with my son.

Add blue crystallisation problems …if it has it .
Nox sensors £1k each and don’t last .
Is it the om651 engine ?
If it has stop start that means excessive cam chain wear and early replacement .

Doesn't look like it has AdBlue.

Purchase a petrol m274 204 keep away from DIE sel.

It won't have adblue just a dpf that doesn't respond well to city driving! So will need to be doing regular motorway runs..

The om651 engine seems to be fine in high mileage well maintained cars. Otherwise it can just as likely go bang either timing chain problems or seized main bearings. The DPF is the least of your worries. It's not clean air zone or ulez compliant so don't see the point of buying a 2012 car - better to find an earlier 2008 car with the bullet proof om646 engine imho

Look for the even rarer C250CGi? Littlebrooklyn on here or t'other side had one for quite a while and IIRC still regrets swopping it!

He's now seen an E-class (2012) W212 E220CDi that he likes the look of.🙄
I don't have any experience of the I4 engines. Are they any good? I'm guessing they'll not be as refined as the V6 diesel.

Having a facelift C250 CDI for the last 4 years they are difficult to ignore , this is a short commute last week from cold .

They are in essence with their sequential bi-turbos an engine with 3L derv torque with 2L derv economy and no turbo lag too .

There is accelerator pedal / throttle plate lag because of its 4 settings in the pedal developer coding but that's another story !

And the wrecking ball that is Stop Strain is easily dealt with by just removing the 7.5A fuse by the auxiliary battery in the boot or completely removing the auxiliary battery and selling it on and saving 5 Kg in weight !

No other vehicle operations like brake HOLD are hindered .

Good tip on the stop start buddy

Bought a 2013 C220 CDi from Mercedes a few months ago. Doing mainly motorway mileage but honestly it’s such a lovely drive. Had no issues with mine yet and it’s on 77k miles

It's the same om651 engine see comment above.
It depends if he is on a budget - these cars can be faultless or they can eat ££££
My guess is that the maintenance history is the difference between a good one and a bad one.
If he is on a budget an older 211 with the om646 (2.1 4cyl) or om648 (3.2 i6) is the way to go. If you want the latest and cheapest to run then it would be an 08/09 e220cdi with the om646 and without a DPF.
If not on a tight budget for running costs then a 212 with the v6 om642 is the way to go.

The one we looked at didn't seem to have brake hold?

I had an C220 W204 2012, he did 162,000 + miles with me, in the end he did have issues, DPF, rear sub frames starting to rot.
But he was a good solid car. i always turned the stop start off, with the switch on the dash when i started him up.
i always used Premium Fuel in him (BP Ultimate) Mercedes Indie told me that was why the DPF and CAT lasted to 141,000 Miles before giving up! Good Cars Just check the Engine for timing chain rattle, mine never did in 162K miles, and look for rust on the rear subframes, and maybe aroung the rear archs. Never actually let me down on the road.

Plenty of Taxi's are C and E-Class 220 or 250s and they do a lot more than 160k with the original DPF! It just depends on the type of driving.

But yes, rear subframe rust is an issue, as well as 'Black Death' injector leaks on those particular engines.

It also depends how long you intend to keep it for - if for the foreseeable, it really might be worth not going for a Euro 5 diesel these days though, who knows how long you'll be able to use it for in your area?
