C350 Cam Covers

Hi all,

i wnet out to look at a new car today, a C350 Petrol 2012 w204

i nictice a very slight ratel on start up and on a bit more inspection noticed that the cam covers have been re sealed...
anyone know why this would have been?

When something that obvious has been bodged it would make me wonder about the rest of it. With that and the starting noise, I'd walk personally.
 
Assuming a M276 engine then yes those covers are prone to leak and likely to have been resealed to cure the leak. The wrong sealant has been used and unlikely they changed the one time use aluminium bolts that hold the covers on either. The start up rattle is most likely due to the lack off oil check valves and old style timming chain tensionsiors on that year of M276. Google this you will see all sorts of informatiom on this subject and the revised parts required to fix. The covers would need to be re opened anyways to correct as all access is behind them.

i looked at the sealent and had a listen and walked away due to the mess of the repair.

Also no heated seats ;)
