Now I understand more about your usage pattern, I'd say 22mpg is pretty good frankly. You'll do much better on a longer uninterrupted run.

I agree.

You won't see any MPG benefit from a diesel under the usage conditions that you describe.

Expect similar MPG as a modern 3ltr V6 petrol under those circumstances.

You mention burning rubber smell? I get this occasionally after a long run but smells more like tyres to me than anything? Am I wrong and could be a common problem on these?

I've had the burning rubber smell today anyone know what it is?can only smell it at the rear thanks sy

Sounds like a diesel particulate filter regenerating smell. not surprising how short your trips are.

I have a 2010 C350 CDI sport Tourer, had for 12 months now . I also get the occasional burning rubber smell from the rear too. Never really been too concerned about it. Is it something people feel needs checking out?

I do around 40-50 miles a day , combination of A roads and motorway. Getting a combined about 33mpg at moment - happy with that tbh. Can get 40 if on just motorway.

At first I was disappointed with MPG , I had come from a diesel vectra (don't judge me). However don't care now and just enjoy driving it , it's a great car.

Hi, just noticed your post and can reassure you here I think.

I've had my 2012 c350 tdi estate for two years and have not reset the computer yet, look at my picture on the left, I'm getting about 37 mpg on average. My commute is 20 miles each way on A roads so not ideal speeds. Long trips easily get 40+ mpg

It is slightly lumpy Rickover, but I just accept it. Think in larger car bodies engine mounts nettle isolate vibration?

It is definitely the dpf regeneration raising the idle rpm, I'm used to that (hate it)

Hi guys, went to Liverpool on Sat.. set the cruise to 70mph and was hitting 42.8mpg and still climbing when I had to come off the motorway (only Liverpool to Manchester)

I'm happy with that, also noticed that on my commute now schools are broken up I'm getting 30 odd due to less traffic. So overall I'm pleased.

Gave her a good clean on Sunday and took some pics so ill post in a new thread.

Great stuff, a huge relief for you then! With figures like that your engine sounds to be running just fine.
