The differential is shot in my 1996 C36 so aside from buying a brand new part I'm wondering do I have any other options ?

I've looked in the usual places and I cant find a second hand part with the correct ratio.

Its a 5 Spd Auto and the Diff ratio is 3.07 , now I know there are a couple of different models that have a 5 Spd Auto and a 3.07 diff ratio ie. the later C250 TD , and i think the C220 too , question is will any of them fit directly ?? Are the couplings the same size etc or do i need one from a C36 ?

I'd really appreciate any help you guys can give or a heads up if you know where to find one.

Cheers

how about getting yours refurbished? as for finding one from other models it's a no as there was too many variations and I doubt a 220cdi diff will handle 270ps and 385Nm of torque.

^^^This, as usually it's just a set of bearing that's required along with seals, presuming there's not excessive damage to the crown wheel or pinion.

Has it got an LSD?

Alot of w124 e class use a 3.07 diff, they will fit your car if you swap the rear cover plate for the c class item.

a few 2nd hand ones on ebay too

I might have one of an E36 w210 if any good?

If it would fit I'd have it , its just hard to get a definitive answer on weather it will or not .

I've heard the C280 has a 3.07 diff ratio and a 5 speed auto , anyone know if its a straight swap ?
