C36 AMG
Hi all

Recently purchased a C36 AMG after a few Mercedes free years and joined MB Club to seek some sound advice on trying to restore a pre-loved car to the condition it deserves.

Took the car to the (fortunately) local and very helpful Alex Crow, who gave the C36 a thorough service and once over.

He diagnosed my idle/cruise control issues as the control module (part no 2025459232) and even found me a couple on Ebay.de, top man!

However, these units run to near £170 and I have found a part claiming to be compatible with the C36 for less than half that.

Can anyone here advise whether the control module 2025454432 would be compatible with my motor, or whether I am going to have to pay the higher price?

Thanks for your time.
Gareth

Hi and welcome to the forum and sorry I can`t give any advice

No problem, hopefully someone on here can assist, thanks for the welcome too.

Hi and welcome,
What is exactly the problem with the car?
Had one of those before maybe can help

Thanks Borys

The car does not idle at 700 rpm, instead it is up and down the rev range between 700 and 1500rpm. Additionally, cruise control is inoperative too.

Alex had the module off and couldn't get it communicating, recommending replacment of the unit.

Just wondered whether another control module would do the trick?

I had the same issue on my old that did not have cruise control & the problem was the wiring loom
I know this might not be what you like to hear but my car had the same engine as yours but 3.2 instead of the 3.6

Fortunately the previous owner did this 2-3 years ago (the plugs on the loom verified this) so unlikely to be this.

On my problem was speed dial not operating, abs light on,no cruize control.
We couldn't connect to a module too.I far as I remember there are two under passenger carpet. In my case it was a electrical relay under bonnet (supply power to control modules). On the right with fuse on top, changed that solved - 10£
Otherwise mine was trouble free

Trouble free would be great!

There is some work to go with the C36, but should be fun getting it up to standard.

Thanks for the pointers.

P.S. Borys, checked out your old C36 pictures, liking your style as I was thinking of the black grille and flat AMG bonnet badge for my motor too!

hi welcome

post a few pictures of the c36 ///AMG

i would check the ht leads and plugs also get the maf checked on the star system
i had a c36 with a intermittent problem i dont know how i fixed it as i did several thing the same day i fixed it

i cleaned the filter on the fuel rail . i also changed the fuel filter , i found that two coils 5&6 were firing but they were breaking down so i replaced both ht leads coils and all plugs 6 of them

the ht leads can become brittle from the heat from the engine ps;the same ht leads are used on the w140 s class

i also checked the fuel pressure at the rail and it was ok

and if i remember i changed the oxygen sensor also that day

is the car running rich can you smell a strong smell from exhaust

Horgantrevor - Yep, the car is running rich, but the idle issue appears to be intermittent, as when it came back from the B service and diagnostic, it ran lovely. Since then it has been up and down the scales again!

The B service saw to all the filters and the diagnostic named the control module. But I am willing to give the rest of your post a look. Thanks.

P.s. I will get some photos up when the snow clears!

Gmanrangers - Thanks mate, looks like you have impeccable taste too. I used to have the 2.3 16v cossie, so just a step up really. Can't wait to get the car up to standard. How long have you been with yours and have you done much?

Hi Gareth welcome to the forum.

Lovely choice of car. Looking forward to hearing how you get on.

CHEERS

had 2.3 about 8 years now. been getting fixed up past year or so and still a bit to get done. had the c36 about year, not done much apart from major service at mercedes as well as gearbox service. want to keep it standard really. runs great and love it. sure you will once you got niggles sorted

Thanks John

I am loving the car and didn't realise how much I was missing owning a sport saloon Mercedes!
