C43 on Ebay read the description some parts he is selling the car and with other parts I would run a mile.

You will probably have noticed that the C43's big E class brother the E55 have started to come right down in price and will soon be cheaper than the W202 C Class AMG cars. This is because the W202 was the last of the quality mercs, build quality has suffered badly in recent years and many of the AMG cars out there are almost lemons, with terrible reliability and poor quality.

The first thing you need to know about these cars is that if you are looking for a C43 and come across a 1998 or 1999 car then check if the gearbox has been replaced. It seems to me that nearly all the cars had huge problems with the over aggressive software used on the autobox and somewhere between 50 and 100k miles the gearboxes fail spectacularly. This happened to the previous owner at around 70k miles and he got the gearbox replaced and upgraded with 2000 software by Mercedes under warranty. You can read about the transmission problems on any of the Mercedes forums.

  Is this true??????

*b00m* ;)

Not really. Some 1997 electronic autos might have been a bit dodgy but they had them sorted by 1998. Sadly AMG are always behind the times because they get the item from MB and then modify it so what they installed in a 1998 or 1999 model may well have been a 1997 gearbox. It's still pretty unlikely though.

gearbox problem is a known problem with the c43, I know 2 people who have had gearboxes let go.
Mine sometimes had a mind of it's own, the day before a sold it, it got tuck in 1 st gear :-) I would also recommend the gearbox oil be changed as chances are it wouldn't have been as merc say they are sealed for life
