Hello everyone!
Took out my C43 this morning after a week not being used. Started on the button as usual :) Drove done to my local wash area to do some cleaning of the bodywork as it is very dusty with pollens in the wind these days. Arrived and waited my turn. Comes my turn dnd NO WAY the car would start  Perfect battery charge, half tank of petrol left. No raw petrol smells at the back of the exhaust, etc. but just wouldn't fire up. I assume it could be the petrol pump which is dead. Where is it situated on or under the car?? It's a left hand drive :D Could it be the crankshaft sensor or something like that which blocks the ECU ?? Your ideas greatly appreciated :dk:
Many thanks to all :thumb:

Sorry to hear of your troubles. One of the guru's will be along shortly to assist.

sounds like crankshaft sensor

If the CPS is shot then your car should fire up as soon as it has cooled down after a while.

Other symptoms:
clogged fuel filter
bad fuelpump
bad ignition parts

You might get several answers!
Hope it's a cheap problem.

CPS probable, broken engine earthing strap or immobiliser fault possible.

When that happened to my C43 it was the earthing strap.

how can the earth strap break?
is it because of rust?
this is a braided part with thick wire!

when the motormounts go bad and the engine shakes is this going to put any stress to this earth strap, to eventually break in half?

Most likely cause is the CPS but can your hear the fuel pump?

Fuel pump

Tried listening but can't hear anything... A vendor at the garage said to me that fuel pumps on these models (w202's or C43) sometime seized and a tap on the side could/would fix it. As neither he or me know where exactly the pump is, difficult to try this trick. Looking under the car (gosh it is quite low) I can see the bottom of the petrol tank but can't get my head further in without lifting the vehicle

Just another question, where and which n° is the fuel pump fuse and relay??

Thanks

Would like to thank those of you who gave hints and suggestions on what could be the cause of the problem. My gut feeling is the fuel pump. But it could also be the CPS (crankshaft p something sensor, whatever that means :dk:) which has gone wrong. I may go back later to the the garage (local MB workshop) and see if it starts again, now that the engine has cooled off. Will keep you posted.

Similar things happened to my C43 and it was the crank sensor....

My strap turned out to be to short, over time the vibration from the engine torque sheared the strap.

did it come too short from the factory and then it eventually broke?

underneath the engine all gunk and crap makes it rust over time!
is this goin to give the strap detoriated ground from electric parts?

Update

Just passed by the garage and tried to start the car.... Well, what happened? It started first go, so probably not fuel pump but CPS instead. We will see Monday after a check on the Star diagnosis.

Who knows !!

The ground cable is quite short. It runs from one of the fixing bolts of the starter motor to the chassis frame side member. Its subject to lots of mechanical and chemical damage due to its position. That big V8 does twist a lot on its mountings due to the huge torque it generates-especially if the engine mounts are getting a bit "tired" Its part no is A9015400741 , priced at £2-54 plus vat from Inchcape. At that price its worth checking/replacing when you replace the CPS which is what the fault now appears to be!:thumb:

Earth strap

Thanks for the tip and I will definitely get the earth strap checked also. As the car was passed through the technical inspection in order to get roadworthness authorization to drive on the roads (test done once every two years) and very complete, I would have thought that a corroded earth strap would have been seen and reported as something to fix asap.

lucky you Swissarians, having every 2 years inspections on your cars!
here in crappy Sweden we get jipped every year for government vehicle inspections!
now the monopoly for vehicle inspections is removed and there will be other vehicle departments like DEKRA whom's going to start their business in Sweden.
More competition/ higher price!

What happens the cost for inspections will increase!
It will be more costly to own a car now.
F---ing politicians, they fu-- up everything!
