My C43's wiper suddenly stopped in the vertical position, so reading the forum decided to strip it down. Pretty easy.

1. remove wiper arm (remove plastic cover - 2 clips either side) undo allen bolt - 5mm key required. Should then pull off. Can be stiff so wrap an old towel under wiper connection to try and protect windscreen.

2. open bonnet to vertical. LH side first (as sitting in car) then RH side.

3. with screwdriver prise off the trims either side of the wiper. 3 clips per side.

4. undo the 10 phillps headed screws underneath - 4 each side and 2 more either side of the wiper. Unclip all the way along and remove

5. remove u shaped plastic trim from under wiper.

6. remove fusebox lid and undo 4 screws holding back bit in place. Unplug wiper motor wire.

7. remove wiper mechanism - 2 nuts (10mm) either side of wiper, one bolt below (13mm) and one plastic clip.

8. Manipulate mechanism to park position. On bench remove the 13mm nut on the back. With tipp-ex pen mark a line so you can put the spindle back in the same orientation. Seperate motor from mechanism.

9. I then plugged motor back in and operated the controls. I could see the motor was jamming, so was confident of it being the motors problem.

10. phone MB. Put phone down after being quoted £ 240.

11. phone GSF. Had one in stock for £ 58+VAT. That is better. Get it.

12. unbolt 3 securing screws and remove motor from mechanism.

13. plug new motor in and operate on intermediate. Turn off when in park position.

14. Fit to mechanism.

15. manipulate linkage to park position and connect crank to motor. There should be a mark on the back of the mech that lines up with the crank.

16. Refit to car in same procedure as above.

Whilst everything was apart I took the opportunity to take off the cover for the wiper mecahnism and gave it a thorough greasing.

Tools needed:
5mm allen key
phillips screwdriver
10mm / 13mm socket

Time required:
between 1 - 2 hours plus fetching motor time.

My Mercedes motor was part number 202 820 2408. GSF had one in stock, made by a company called Flusser, GSF part number M93802. Wasn't listed in their catalogue but phoned on offchance. Glad I did.

I opened up the old motor and the nylon gear had stipped its teeth, and the metal worm drive had half a tooth missing as well.

Sorry no photos. Procedure is as per C-Class Haynes manual but their grading of 3 out of 5 difficulty spanners is I think optimistic. Its not that difficult really and doesn't require any special tools.
