Evening all, I'm looking to move on from my 2004 911 C2 & get into another AMG - why not have two eh
Looking at 2012 C63 V8 coupes, any major issues i shoud be looking out for other than the usual things..??
Thanks to all in advance.

Jon

Tell us more about the 911 Jon, did you drive it much, any major issues during your ownership?

I think you’ll find the driving experience quite a lot different. Was your 911 a manual?

Hi Will, it’s a 2004 manual C2 with average miles, I’ve replaced all the usual 911 issues (crossover pipes, power cables & starter, full suspension rebuild, waterpump & low temp stat etc) I’ve driven 8000 miles including a trip to the ring & have enjoyed it but it’s too low, too stiff & fragile.
I just don’t love it, I don’t find any excuse to drive it & prefer my E63.
I’ve spent more in 18 months on the 911 than I’ve spent on my E63 in 7 years, Project AMG are on my doorstep and the C63 has always been on my wish list 🤞IMG_3121.jpeg

Hi Jon,

I definitely think you need the right sort of roads and opportunities to enjoy these cars. Not a perfect fit really for all occasions though and as you say they can be quite low and stiff (they are sports cars I guess!)

Nice to have had the experience though and you can at least say that you’ve owned one :thumb:

Usually with these cars the running costs are higher but so are the residuals - in other words you’ll generally get most of your money back when you’re finished if you look after them.

I think yours has quite a few miles on it now - so I guess at that age and mileage you’d expect a few larger bills to creep up. So long as you don’t get stung with a major engine repair then I would count yourself relatively fortunate! :)

Yeah, luckily zero engine issues but it’s 20 years old & all the usual wear & rear items have caused issues 😳
Like you say, I’ve had one & won’t have another unless it’s modern one…

Modern ones offer a different sort of experience. As does every generation of car to a point I guess (compare your 20 year old 997 to an earlier one!)

If you’re running the man maths a newer one might cost less in repairs and maintenance, but will depreciate a bit more. I reckon that trick is to buy the best older example you can afford and you get the best of both worlds.

In other words, in 8k miles I think you’ve inherited a bit of deferred maintenance from the previous owner. A lot of people get PPIs done for these sorts of cars, so you can either ensure you’re buying a peach or at least make sure the price is correct/negotiate for work needed :)

Check the tyres, owners report inners seem to wear out, which is normal across most modern AMGs. There are oem camber bushes available from MB. Not heard of any bad reviews, C63s looks nice with its wider body, report from owners seems all good. It will be slightly more roomier than the 997, but no means spacious compared to E63. Good luck buddy, thumbs up from me. Try get one in metalic black or diamond white convertible. It's a step up replacement from
a 997🙂 👍

Not sure if you seen this video 🙂

They never made a 204 convertible 😄 I've had 2 saloons and 1 coupe ppp car with basically 0 issue's tyres lasted 6k miles as said above inside edges wear (contact 6 tyres) the plastic camcover will crack just a matter of time usally the nearside 1 which is a pain to do other than that buy a standard car and 1st thing to do is put an LSD on it 😉 enjoy

1st if not 2nd, get a resonator delete, if it hasn't had it already. it will transform the exhaust note. All for the better 🚀

True....but they made the E Class 2 door convertible C207.. which is as you know is a 204 platform underneath. They share the same wheelbase as the 204 saloon and very similar axle track lengths.

They didn’t make a C207 ‘63 either though?

There is one that comes to SADCASE.....built by the owner. M157.....he was going to put a 156 in but he (like me) preferred the extra oomph of the 157 and they were cheaper (because there were more around to choose from)....he said that fitting 156 would have been easier though as fitting kits can be bought in the US...and of course the 156 was fitted in the 204 platform where as the 157 wasn't.

Not really relevant though as this was never a factory build, so it’s not going to influence the OPs buying decisions etc.

People have grafted all sorts of stuff into different vehicles over the years. The 212 chassis was designed before the 157 came out but that doesn’t seem to have been a particular obstacle so I can’t see a huge issue fitting a 157 into a 207, especially as they fitted the 278 into these anyway with the (relatively rare) E500

Apologies, misread the post, for some reason i thought OP was looking at the newer 4.0L C63s?

There are ample C63 W204 for sale, not enough of them being driven on the roads these days. A great buy, plenty of fun to have and lots of smiles per gallon. Most have probably exchanged hands and been mapped. The M156 engine is a great engine, pleasure to work on for any DIY enthusiast, it definitely has a character and soul. Thumbs ups from me 🙂👍

It was a very well speced car and totally standard ran 503bhp on the dyno some day's i wish id kept it but the C63s coupe I have now would totally leave it for dead 😀 how times change

I'd try and see if you can find a facelift with performance pack with LSD (though not sure how easy it is to find an LSD one ). The forged internals of the PPP and better brakes are a great addition imo.
Bought the E class m156 with performance pack and lsd and it was incredible.
