Cabin Filter Change

That was awkward changing the cabin filter as its underneath the glove compartment, but done for another year, the new one is on the "left".

Isn't the one under the glovebox supposed to be an activated carbon filter (which would look more like the one on the right), or is it that the new one is one of those fancy "hypoallergenic" filters?

I only ask because I've got a very plain looking filter in the engine bay, and activated carbon filters under the glovebox.

It's a Mann Frecious Plus Cabin Filter

Thought air is passed through the filter under the glovebox only when the air sensor detects noxious substances or when switched to from the control panel. Therefore, should not need replacing on an annual basis.

It says: Cabin air filters should be replaced every 12,000 to 15,000 miles and even more often in high pollution areas.

As my car is a "used & abused" 14 plate I don't know if its part of a dealer service so I changed it just for piece of mind.

Yes, I change the input cabin air filter that's under the bonnet (known as combination filter and/or dust filter in MB speak) with each service, but the under glovebox filter (activated charcoal filter in MB speak) less frequently, as it is not often in use.
