I have recently baught a 53 plate E320 cdi ********** and the cabin lights dont come on when the doors are opened. But they seem to work fine when you switch them on with the switch I am sure it is something silly like a relay? Does anyone have any ideas?

Better to suggest reading the user guide, then you cannot go wrong. Even if I have a W211, I thought it would have a thee way switch like usually but it actually has an "automatic interior lights on/off" button. In the middle of the upper control panel, the middle one of the three there.

Note that it only comes on at dark (if not manually turned on).

From the instrument cluster menu you can control the delayed switch off time.

I have red the user manual and there is no three way switch only the switches located near the rear view mirror. which switch the lights on or off.

There are 4 switches one for map light, one for rear light, one for front light, and the last one has a picture of a car with he doors open. When i press this button all the lights come on and dont go of. I have to press it again to turn the lights off. I presumed that when they are switched off they are in standby waiting for a door to open. But when you open the door no lights come on!

I had the same problem when I first got the CLK. The interior lights are wired through the light sensor & will come on when you open the doors and it is dark.

Does the combi spring into life when you open the door? Or perhaps a better way to say it do the interior lights not come on no matter what door is used?

If you have the panel setup correctly then the light sensor is the place to look, do you get instrument illumination when its dark and do the exterior lights activate correctly when set to auto.
