CLK 55
Hi Guys,

A while ago I gutted my CLK55 stock airbox, but tbh, I still think it's a rubbish design, the paper filters cover half of the intake tube and all of the air just hits a wall and has to then try and mill around in a rather thin box to get to the TB.

I can't see any E55 kits over here for sale so I am thinking of making a custom one.

So I guess I will need a Y pipe, some clamps, stainless pipe with wrap or rubber and some silicone bends. All that is no problem, but I am wondering which air filters and cans to use, we don't have much choice over here in the UK as I can see apart from BMC Carbon.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the size of the filters required and any recommendations for the actual units?

Thanks!

Have you measured the air pressure pre and post air filter at wide open throttle? If there is no difference than the engine as getting all the air it needs and any mods you make will have zero increase in performance..

sorry that was the wrong link I was looking at the hp300.

It's 150mm wide 300mm long with 80mm intake and outlet.

Re measuring flow, no I haven't but I had my car tuned by Ray at west tuning last spring, we made 389hp and in his opinion it was the best we could do with the restrictive air box. He has tuned others with the rentech and he could take them further. After the final tune he added 3% to allowforit to cope with fueling for a less restrictive intake such as the rentech. He said after tuning a car that is all he needed to do to allow the eng me to utilise the new intake.

I didn't like the look of the home made CAI's, and no rentech has been available, but they have grown on me and I fancy a tinker now.

From previous research the needs wigs or e55 on an na 55 m113 lump produce similar results and in some cases better than the rentech box, hence going for it.

I just want to be sure that I get the right boxes for the system.

excuse typos I am using a phone

Cheers!

Having trouble finding a Y pipe in the UK or alternative.

Have been looking for 3" or 80mm universal silicone or alloy Y pipe, but no joy atm.

If anyone has any recommendations it would be appreciated.

Get Imran to make you one out of 304grade stainless while you are at Toerqueflow?

A lot of guys in America are using open green filters, so like the bmc carbon or the above but no "shield" so to speak, the question or heat etc came up but no one has noticed any issues with it like this..
