Hi,

I have a 2016 w205 non Amg steering wheel and want to know if I can put an Amg steering wheel on this I already have an AMG air bag as I thought this would fit my current steering wheel , finding a manual AMG steering wheel is hard so next question is can you buy a automatic steering wheel and take the shifters off ?

any help will be very grateful.

No idea, sorry I can’t help you regarding whether it’s possible. I am interested though in the difference between an AMG and non-AMG steering wheel - is it much different?

I suspect that Mercedes sell many, many more cars with automatic gearboxes than they do manual gearboxes, and all AMG cars are automatic as far as I’m aware.

You could probably hack off the buttons and fill the space in - but instead of butchering it you could always see if there's a way to repurpose the buttons to do something else with a bit of electrical wizardry.

The wiring looms could be an issue, and coding too, I wanted to fit a steering wheel with shift buttons on my CLK350 and found the right type of steering wheel, but Mercedes weren't interested in coding it in (as my car never had the M mode to start with) and said the end results of the buttons would mimic the +/- buttons on the gear selector so I gave up.

Not what you're trying to do, but this thread might give you some insight:

Edit: I too haven't seen AMG manuals and am told apparently they don't do manuals, at least for the recent stuff in the last decade or so, I could be wrong where there are some very limited exceptions, but on the whole it seems this is going to probably be more hassle than it's worth...

Just looked close up and that wheel looks great to me.

Just a thought, Royal Steering Wheels might be able to reshape your original wheel to give it a different feel, perhaps a thicker rim, contoured “thumb grips”, coloured stitching, etc to create a one off.
