Hi

Over the weekend someone or something has very kindly smashed the drivers door window on my wifes car. I have spoken to our insurers and its covered under the glass cover and thus only a £75 excess and it does not effect the no claims.

The insurers have put me in touch with National Windscreens, however I would rather that it go to the main dealer, is this something that insurers will allow or do I have to use who the insurance company stipulate?

Thanks

Tan

Some policies mention that they allow you to choose but have a higher excess (£100?) if you exercise the option.

I used a national windscreen company, can't remember which, but specified MB branded glass. Think it was Pilkington.

+2

Doubt any Main Dealer would fek about with Glass when they can get Autoglass/Windscreens/etc/etc/etc to waz over at the drop of a hat and do it far better than their spotty Teenage 'mechanics'.

They'll still charge ya dealer rates though!

National Windscreens will be calling in the morning, so will request original Porsche glass and hope for the best. My friendly Porsche mechanic also said that a new internal door membrane is required, would NW do this or try and reuse the existing one?

Thanks for the input guys.

Some side airbag sensors are located inside the door and operate on air pressure so will require the door membrane to be in perfect condition. I wonder if this is the case here and hence the mechanic's comment?
