Car
w115 200 / 230e sold
I have a lovely 2 owner W123 purchased from the son of a deceased owner. The car came with no service book or old Mot's etc, they may turn up when the house is sold and cleared, but does anyone know if the original sales information is available from mercedes, as this is unlikely to turn up. ???

You can check the service history/get copies from an MB dealer if you take the log book in,MOT's can be ckecked on the DVLA website, hope that helps.

I sent an email to Mercedes in Germany with the VIN no. and they replied today saying they have the info, but want to see the V5 with my name on and a copy of my passport or driving licence. (scans are fine). The reply came from their customer service centre in the Netherlands.

They did confirm that the car is an import and where it came from though.

I don't have the V5 back yet, so can't do it just now.

That's pretty standard from MB. They like to know they are talking to the car owner.

Yes, they asked me for this info too when I enquired about my car.

Do you have the email address in Germany for checking up on the history?

My cars early history is missing, I’ve spoken with the first owner and it was definitely there when she sold it.

MB at Milton Keynes weren’t too helpful when I enquired with them, didn’t really want to help.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have a name for the original dealer as Carols of Wolverhampton but think they have changed names, I'll ring the number I found. Also the servicing dealer for many years was TW Neale Motors up that way, so I will try them too.
The car changed to a private plate around 1988 with the second owner so the reg document doesn't confirm much for proof of ownership - guess I need to get something from DVLA before contacting Mercedes.

Wouldn’t all the records held with Mercedes be traceable via the MB VIN number?

Just remembered my cars story,

When my car was first registered it was on a private plate. Then when the first owner changed the car, the plate was transferred to another Mercedes supplied by the same garage, consequently all the service records for my car linked to the first registration are missing.

There is no early history for my car with the MB dealer/supplier/servicing dept (Tonbridge), and other than going down and sifting through their hard copies, I don’t think I’m going to get them.

I do however have a letter from the first owner saying that it was a much loved car and regularly serviced.

Regards, and good luck with your search. R

Your possession of the V5 with your name and address signifies proof you are the vehicle's official keeper and your location. It also contains the chassis and engine numbers which will link to the car---- the registration no is incidental really

Thanks, this was mentioned previously and I now have MOT information including the garage and mileages back to 2005, when it was computerised. I have a feeling the same garage may have done the MOT for many years as they are all the same with a total of 6000 miles in that time !! Lots of good information on this thread, thanks again.
