Mercedes E270 Estate
Hi I'm new to the forum just looking to see if it would be worthwhile getting a remap,it's a 2003 e270 estate, would like more power and economy,it's got about 140,000.Would this wreck the engine, injectors,or be worthwhile?

Done sensibly, by a reputable firm (a couple of whom are forum supported here, check the traders section), it would be very worthwhile. The 270 is a strong engine with potential.

Avoid generic maps or, worse, add-on boxes...

I believe a lot will depend on the condition of your engine too, as to how much actual benefit you achieve from a remap. I am contemplating doing this on my 320cdi CLS, together with K & N filters.......not sure, and need a bit of convincing myself tbh. Some years ago I have a remap done on a BMW330CD, and didn't realise any tangible benefit in performance or MPG, and its not cheap either......

Do it. Mines much better and a hell of a lot quicker with lots of power through the range.

How much did it put everyone's insurance up by?

agreed, these things are indistinguishable from stand, at least in appearance, so I wouldn't invite an unnecessary additional charge tbh

If you have a claim and they do find out about the tune you will not be covered.

If you're involved in a big claim the insurance co. WILL look to see if the car has been remapped - this has been a standard check for years.

If you're not the first owner you might get away with claiming it was like that when you bought it. But if it's technically possible to identify when the remap was applied (or they find forum posts about it :D) you'll be in trouble.

Agreed. Like you say it's normally a serious accident where they would check! Plus I've not said anything about my insurance circumstances!.

I am quite sure it is down to you to know if your car has been modified not the insurance company and this must be disclosed.

Lets say rich kids dad buys him second hand vtec civic and said kid has only just past test and never driven a vtec. How does he know the difference between mapped and UN mapped? He doesn't. Highly unrealistic scenario I know but just food for thought.

Mine went up < £70, so worth declaring in my eyes.

Avoid generic maps

Who actually does live remapping for MB? To date all companies I've heard of will use generic increased figures by sending off the file to be altered with elsewhere...

In this instance I'd advise a generic remap which has had the investment into proper research and development with the engine variant. By the looks of the current situation, many are either copying a decent companies remap or are just changing figures blindly to something that seems to work.

I'd be weary of increase figures if they cant be backed up, and wont be surprised if there is no significant increase in overall power - although the car feels faster as the power comes in at a different peak to standard...

You are correct ^^^^^^^.....every bit of googling that i did they all say or do the same send off your own map to a remapping centre in the sky and it comes back all altered in 2hrs and is loaded back to the motor.

Who is to say that what we have paid for is done through all the same www. address!!.....there may be two maps only Economy and Performance as what i read they all seem very very similar.

How are you getting on with yours Keith? Now that you've had the chance to play around for more time - was it worthwhile?

Thanks for asking Litcan 91....

All i can say is it runs like a dream...no bother at all including the 7g changing gears etc., i believe the 2T in the fuel helps the cleaner burn with added mpg plus a smoother and quieter engine.

There are so many users on this forum that just really like to disagree without finding out for themselves!

Myself for one is WYCIWYG and if all was to avail i would say so.

Yes, i red line the engine every time i use it once thoroughly warmed up and it rewards me with the performance i want and keeps the ECU on it`s toes....Lol

Very worthwhile remap even if considered optimistic bhp!
