Hi

I have a Mercedes Elegance and am having problems with my cd changer, when i put the cds in it seems to make a loading noise, and when i press the cd button on the dash board it says 'no cd'. Can anyone advise what the problem maybe and how to rectify it?

Thanks

Try disconnecting the power for 30 seconds and then reconnecting it.
That normally sorts it.

Yes I have the same problem. But I've given up!! I've stripped it down, fibre optics working, power supplied,,,but no good. There are many threads about this, it seems to be a matter of luck (IMO) as to whether it works or not. Sorry.:o

Its 2001- c180 elegance.
dumb question but where do i unplug it- im a novice.

Find the changer. Then find the plug attached. Then pull it off.

Not to hard. The CD Changer is in the glove-box I presume?

If so, it is held in with one screw at the top in the centre of the unit.
Undo that and the unit slides forward.
This will expose all of the wires. For the sake of ease of explanation just pull them all out (make sure they don't disappear down the little square hole otherwise it could be a bigger job to get them back).
Leave it unplugged for about 30 seconds (I never know why this is but it does seem to make a difference) and then plug it back in and power it up.

Hope it solves your problem.

Just tried the above and it did not work. I think the magazine maybe the problem as the cd player is trying to take the cds from the mag, but the mag will not release. can replacement mags be bought? if so where from?

Thanks for your help on this.

Nightmare.. I knackered mine by selecting say disc 1 and then changing my mind an selecting another disc before the unit had finished the first request.:crazy:

I paid £100 for one from the breakers yard and it isn't too good, in that it jumps on all but the smoothest roads.

Also, I think you are limited to what non MB cd changer you can have due to the fibre optics set up.

Would it be better and cheaper to buy a new system from halford and fit it in or to try and replace the changer mag?

Mercedees cd changer=crap:D do a google very common problem, same basic unit fitted to discovery TD5, same faults but not fibre optic.

If you use the one from a W163 then it has a more cache and jumps less ;)

There's an orientation adjustment on the side, if it came out of a car where it was vertical (i.e not flat in the glovebox (which means just about anything except W203/W209)) and it is now flat, if you don't adjust that it will jump alot

[Edit, there was on the last CDC I fitted, but that was a while back, so conceivable Merc (alpine) may have made something clever, but i doubt it]

would it be best to replace the whole stero system with something from halfords?
