Mercedes C220 CDI Estate
Hi all,
I have just bought a 2003 c220 cdi estate. It is currently fitted with a standard cd/radio with additional cd changer.
I am looking at changing this to a double din unit but have a few questions. Any help would be appreciated.

1, Is it a straight forward swap or does it require any aditional wiring? Additional facia plate?
2, How does the phone pad work? Does it require certain sim card? Can it be linked to my current contract?
3, Will the sat nav double din unit fit staright in?
4, Are codes required, as many listings on ebay suggest not.

Thanks

Jim

Assuming yours is prefacelift you can fit comand pretty easily. Direct fit but you may need an adaptor for the CD changer - did on our CLK. It will be the older CD based comand. Pretty basic but works well enough. Keep the CD changer or else you cant navigate and have CD at the same time. Sound quality is good. The phone pad will only work with the phone connector in the armrest and a cradle or bluetooth adaptor. Check in the top of the armrest to see if you have the connector.
One word of caution. If buying off e-bay check the actual part number. Visually identical units may not be compatible. For example c-class and clk are interchangeable but one from an e or m class will not work.
The CD based units are not coded.

Thanks

Thanks for that. Anyone else's experience would be appreciated.

hi i have a 2005 facelift w203 and had a double din unit fitted to it last year. (my aftermarket unit had built in bluetooth phone so didnt have to bother with the factory one. just had to wire up a mic)

if it helps, i had to buy a facia adapter kit. a wiring harness adaptor, but IIRC there were about 3 different types for my model so i had to have it the factory stereo removed before i could buy the right one.

i also had to buy the canbus lead so i could retain my steering controls, and also a patch lead that matches the canbus lead to the make of the aftermarket stereo.

i paid a proffesional to supply and fit all the parts and it cost me in the region of £180 for supply of parts and fitting. minus the double din stereo, that was another £400.

hope that helps. any more info let me know.

Can you advise on what can us parts you used. I needs these for a double din I fitted. It's for clk 2002 with alpine stereo

is yours a pre facelift or facelift? mine is a facelift so may be a bit different if your aint.
