I know :ban:

I am curious as car supermarkets currently appear to be overflowing with low mileage 3 year old examples which look very cheap - around £4k for the 1.8 auto estate (and falling I imagine given how many are sitting unsold). I don't think i have actually seen one on the road outside of Top Gear but I suppose the few people who leased/bought these new are coming to the end of their three year contracts.

Has anyone had any experience with these? If (and it is a big if) I could get over the terrible image I am wondering if they might be a bit of a bargain small estate / second car (rather like the Lada Riva my grandparents had when I was a kid). The equipment levels are quite good, and for what it is you could probably live with it feeling a bit outdated.

The auto is supposed the be the worst version. Thirsty, high tax and singularly awful to drive.

Cheap, yes. Value, who knows. Maybe drive one and see if you could live with the auto.

I suspect they are ex motability cars.

Are these still not rebadged Daewoo from the GM stock of 1985?

It sounds like a reasonably priced car.........

Yes I believe they are rebadged Daewoos - did not know the design was that old though.

The Chevrolet Lacetti looks to be a re-engineered Daewoo Lanos, itself a re-engineered Vauxhall Astra.

There are no EuroNCAP tests for the Lacetti, but the Lanos is a 2.5 star car (v.poor).

Maybe for such a cheap car this isn't a primary concern. I can't help but feel that a slightly higher mileage but new design Astra, Focus, Citroen would be better cars.

Or , for the same money , a used Mercedes will be a much better buy .

Remember things are cheap for a reason and the Chevrolet badge should not adorn 1985 reborn cars that drive like a skip fitted with pram wheels. I wouldn't spend £4 on one let alone £4k think what that would get you second hand from a premium manufacturer

Believe me this is where I want to end up, just want to convince myself and other half that we have considered reasonable alternatives. Comments here have pretty much confirmed my suspicions and I think I'll steer clear, just wanted to make sure it wasn't just vanity/snobbery on my part to assume they would be garbage!

Daewoo perfected the art of making tin so thin that a young girl breaking wind in the next county would create a fair size dent in your cars body work. My neighbour (paint sprayer and body repairer) worked on a couple and said that the tin stretches so much you end up just replacing panels for the smallest of dings.

One day I will have a Vito with 7 seats to transport the family around in. Have looked at these type of things.

But in the end it is just not a Merc and sure I'm Lee will come up with something in the end for me. My budget does not run to a Merc yet.
Lots of stuff coming off "Mobility" right now so maybe one day.

Why anyone would take a Lacetti on Motability confuses me...since they could have many much better cars...for the same cost...£0.

Why buy a 7-seater, when you can buy a 9-seater (3 rows of 3 seats each), and drive freely in Bus Lanes all day long, and not pay Congestion Charge (if you ever do come down to London during weekdays)?

Can't be easy selling used Korean cars given new ones are really cheap and come with endless warranties.

Much as it's fun to poke fun at them, these are some of the worlds best selling cars, and do they rust and breakdown like Mercedes do?

I think the Koreans are now where the Japanese were in the eighties and early nineties, they got it spot-on on reliability but still make outdated models - and will soon start innovating.
