Morning,

My recently bought C220 '96 has chrome arches on:eek: , I want them off. The front ones have two screws, but I can't see how the rear ones are permanently attached.

Does anyone know if some sort of glue will have been used, and what are the chances of my wings looking ok when and if they come off, any tips or tricks welcome,

Thanks

Ellis

Chances are the rear are glued on and, as long as a flexible type adhesive has been used, the use of a hair dryer to heat the glue should get them off. WD40 will then get rid of any residue. Polich and wax and should be good as new.

It should look fine as long as you take them off properly making sure the glue is heated enough.

Depends how well they're fitted, and how long they've been there. It's not unknown for chrome arches to cause rust on the bodywork, rather than just hide it. Water and crud gets trapped between the chrome trim pice and the wing. If they've been there for a long time, then that's a risk.

i would try pammy`s technique first , and then if you find there is rust underneath, just get the arches repaired and repainted.

The rears do feel fairly solid, is it likely that the fronts will be glued and screwed?

Thanks for hair dryer tip;)

If it's not flexible type, I assume something more permanent wil have been used, contact adhesive maybe, I presume if the hairdryer has no effect I'll know fairly soon what it's stuck on with.
