Well I thought it was time the chrome exhaust tip got some TLC like the rest of the car, so bought some autosol and some fine grade wire wool and after a good wash & polish, set to work....thinking this is hard work would be much easier if the tip came off....then while contorted under the car I thought that hex head screw could be the only thing securing the tip.... two minutes later I had the Chrome tip in my hand:doh:

Note to self....ask on forum before starting these jobs! :wallbash:

Anyway the tip came up gleaming after 1/2 hour of washing / scrubbing, wire wool and autosol. It's a pity no one can see the hard work as it's under the car!

Suns out again....time to go and give the interior a vac & polish.

Top tip to keeping your tip in tip top condition………..cleaning your tip every time you clean the car, keeps your tip from becoming a tip.:D

Yea a quick going over with shiny sinks each time will keep it gleaming.

Childish snigger………..John likes shining his tip.

was it hard to get off ? i took the screw out of mine and tried pulling it off wouldnt budge ?

Just removed the hex head screw and slid it off.....no problems at all. It's a snug fit over the exhaust pipe but as I said slid off no problem.
Is it rusted on?.... Any movement at all?

no mines solid must be rusted on

its a 2008 c320 , i got the hammer at the back end of it under car and tried knocking it off with a cloth over the tip then hitting but still no movement :(

I couldn't shift the one on our 2007 C Class either. The bolt unscrewed easily enough but the cover wouldn't budge.

It may be wholly incorrect but when I used to replace chrome exhaust slip ons on motorbikes that had stuck fast I used to slacken of the screw / nut, tap it a few times with a rubber mallet or the rubber handle of an hammer, spray WD40 all around the joint wiggling it as I went, oooer, then leaving it an hour or two. hey presto on return a bit of persuasion and off it would slide......might work if you get stuck...pun intended...:D

Will give it a try.
