CL vs CLS?

I am looking to buy a GT-class coupe in the near future, and it seems MB fulfil all the requirements...

There are two options, a CL or a CLS. There is a 2002 CL500 for sale nearby which I'm sure could be had for a reasonable price. But how much should I be budgeting for each month/year for repairs, maintenance, servicing etc?

If this amount is significant, then might I be better going for a low-mileage CLS500? Bearing in mind the difference in age/generation, how do these cars compare?

Hm. If considering a CL you might want to start by searching on this forum for the term "Galvanic Corrosion"

I should also have mentioned this:

2002 MERCEDES BENZ CL CLASS

Summary:
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, CORROSION MAY OCCUR IN THE INNER STEEL PORTIONS OF THE ACTIVE BODY CONTROL'S (ABC) HIGH PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION HOSE DUE TO EXTENSIVE EXPOSURE TO HUMIDITY CAUSING DETERIORATION OF THE HOSE.

Consequence:
THIS MAY RESULT IN ABC HYDRAULIC FLUID LEAKAGE NEAR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. LEAKING FLUID MAY COME IN CONTACT WITH HOT ENGINE COMPONENTS AND LEAD TO A POSSIBLE FIRE.

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW CORROSION RESISTANT ABC HIGH PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION HOSE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 2, 2007

Now they are very nice cars. But......

I would go for the W215 CL over the CLS personally. Has huge road presence in comparison to the CLS.

The CLS looks like a shoe ...

The W215 CL has such road prescence as Flash says. CL gets my vote every time.

To check the other part of the question, if it were to be the CL what kindof money would one typically put aside for keeping it sweet? £1,2,3k p.a?

Each suspension strut is about £500 plust fitting. They do go wrong too.

ANY ABC faults are going to be expensive.

I would go for the CLS, personally.

Great looking and much more modern design above and below the skin.

CLs are supposedly plummeting in price right now, so bargain hard if that's the route you choose.

Depreciation is impressive - CL55s (kompressors) seem to lose £5k a year and are down to £20k. This CL500 might be worth a look.

Well... it IS huge compared to the CLS...

Don't know if you have driven a CL and a CLS BUT I own a CL500 and had a CLS500 for two weeks to look after for someone. CLS looks more liek a chauffeurs car and did not attract as much attention as the CL... You see more CLSs on the road then CLs...

Although the CLS is a current model which counts in it's favour.

It's probably one of life's better choices. ;)

Another fan I see Rob.:D

I'll ignore the derogatory remarks from Howard and co. No ride for you then.

CL or CLS? Well it also depends on your preferences, ie 2 or 4 door, 2+ or 4 seats etc. I like the look of the CL as well as the CLS (of course) but the other factors are engine preferences, performance and economy etc.

In the end you pays your money and takes your choice, which is always YOUR choice, as others are biased with the varying preferences mentioned above.;)

Which is why I went for the economical CLS 320CDI with excellent performance and 40mpg and 4 seats and 4 doors.

It wasn't a personal dig at you Brian :)

I've always said it looked like a shoe , long before you bought one.
