Cl203 gearbox

Over the duration of the last year, the 6 speed manual gearbox in my cl203 c200 CDI (2005) has become slightly notchy, particularly changing from first to second. What can be done about this?

I have suggested to my mechanic that we should try a gearbox oil change but he says they do not require this, and it may in fact make it worse. however I have read certain threads saying it can really help with certain boxes, and also an oil reduction can help with some. I am completely oblivious as to where my gearbox falls in this, as i dont even know the model number, however here are the numbers for my car
