Hi,

I have a CL500 2000 model with the command unit. The car has a Subwoofer in the centre of the parcel shelf. Now this works fine but doesn't seem capable of producing quite enough bass to what I would like, where as the rest of the speakers seem fine.

So, What is the spec of the subwoofer in it?

Also, I do have my own Sub and amp etc sat in my loft from my previous car, this will perform fine and to my liking, BUT - I don't want to spend anytime wiring it up putting it in my boot if it's not worth it. What I mean by this is, how well is the boot sound deadened to the interior cab ? Will I be able to hear a sub if I located it in the boot or would it be worth my while removing the existing sub and creating some kind of adaptor to retro fit my sub and amp in its place (which I would rather not do of course due to the amount of work required). If the sub can be heard fine, then a simple drop the sub in it's existing free standing box into the boot, install amp and bingo!

All advice and comments appreciated.

Thanks in advance

H

Not entirely sure, it has speakers in the front bottom corners of the doors with tweeters in top corner, plus another speaker in the bottom rear of the doors. A centre dashboard mounted speaker, two speakers in the parcel shelf and the centre rear subwoofer.

To be fair, it does turn up pretty loud so I would be surprised if it wasn't the Bose system.. How can I tell if it is or not ?

Thanks in advance

If I remember right the BOSE systems have spatial sound settings whereas the regular unit doesn't.

There should be an option called Sound Settings somewhere in COMAND with Bass, Treble, Balance, etc - see if there are the spatial effects in there too.

Actually No, not all early M/Y 2000 has (!) Mine did not so I thought, well, not bad sound for a standard equipped CL. It was not until I removed the left side of the interior in the luggage compartment and found the booster amplifier I realized that it was a fully loaded car I bought...

Well its pissing down with rain so not gonna get VIN yet, no logos on door cards though. Will look at VINnumber tomorrow :)

Right eventually got around to writing down my VIN and finding out what spec the system is, it stated the below -

"loudspeaker, sound package sound package (bose) (с 01.12.1986)"

I basically want to know is it worth me adding my own additional subwoofer into the boot in its own sealed box or not. As I am unsure how well sealed the boot area is for SOUND reaching the cabin etc etc.

Thanks in advance.

Thats a hard one to answer, your sound deadening is better in the CL than the SL as the cabin is sealed.

Can you ever hear petrol swishing in the fuel tank, or do you have a portable CD player that you could stand in the boot to see what you can hear.
One feels sub bass more than you can hear it

I can't hear petrol swish no andI dont have a portable cd player as such. I will pop to my sisters later in week and see if she has one I can drop in boot and blow up :D

Thanks for input Malcolm.

ok didnt work for me either, try looking under member= droptopm3

Indeed it does look nice. I have alot more kit sat in me spare room than the Bose kit whats already in me CL500.

It's just as I keep changing my cars each year, I loose motivation to keep doing my ICE installs as I simply refuse to pay someone to do a job I can do better in most occassions.

I will consider making up a custom enclosure for my Sub and amp + CAP in near future as the speakers in the Bose system are fine for now. I will change them out for my RF FNQ series components later in summer perhaps.

Agreed M, but it still does happen...
