has anyone had experience of using the cleaning fluid that is available for cleaning egr valve on a turbo D engine, does it go in the tank, or spray into air intake, or is it a strip down and soak on the bench job,

cheers

My experience was spray into the intake after the MAF. My advice would be to manually remove the EGR and clean it with brake cleaner but it didn't make any difference. Why do you think you need to clean the EGR?

my wife's alfa is a derv burner.

it has suddenly started stuttering, and has lost a bit of get upo and go.

after trawling the alfa and fiat sites, where the cars use the same 1.9 engine, there are a lot of posts stating similar symptoms, and they are almost all egr related.
i thought it was a replace or remove and clean job, but wanted to check.

seems like i will need to test the warranty.

cheers

I can't do any harm, may also be a MAF clean required no? My old Passat started to get a bit weak and a MAF cleanup resolved it. I did the EGR as well as it was caked almost solid but that made no difference.

It can't do any harm though...

im taking it for service nxt month, just realised we paid for a years extra warranty, so will be asking (demanding) change of egr, and maybe maf as well...
